Print margins and headers/footers

I see that print margins as well as Headers and Footers are listed as added features in Safari 3.0.4 but they are still not ready for final version. Print margins may be edited in page set up but the size you input will be reset to 1 inch every time. So really you may not change the margins.

Also Apple must have added Header & Footer to this release but didn't include the configuration allowing users to turn this off.

This browser is by far the fastest....no argument there. Unfortunately it does not allow anyone needing to print to a non-standard printer (e.g. Star Receipt) with .2 margins and no header & footer.

Have I missed something here? Has anyone been able to edit a margin and actually have that value used and saved? Is Header/Footer configuration somewhere different from my Mac version?

Thanks. I have noticed when I change printers to a standard printer then back to the star receipt printer that default values change. They are still not correct but they do change. Unfortunately this "fix" is not practical in the real world. The browser needs to work the correct way all the time to allow the staff to print receipts without having to configure it each time (or each time launched). Also, in my case the print dialogue is scripted and one would never get the chance to preview the page and set margings, etc.

I do hope this is addressed for the final version. Mac Safari 3 does work with this but I run everything from a windows machine at the business. This Mac compatibility gives me hope the Windows version will step up as well.

You can choose to not print headers and footers by following these steps:
1. FIle --> Print
2. The 3rd drop down is "Copies & Pages" by default, click that and towards the bottom of the list you will see "Safari", select this.
3. Here you have 2 checkboxes ("Print Backgrounds" and "Print Headers & Footers") - make sure they are not checked.
4. CLick either "Preview" or "Print"

SHAZAM - no headers or footers. Most Apple stuff is intuitive, but finding this toggle was fairly Windows-esque

This is a bug in the application. I am using a Star receipt printer (72mm x Receipt) that prints by way of a script from web browser. There is no opportunity to "print preview" anything. I must be able to set print margins to (.2,.2,.2,.2) as in all other browsers. Unfortunately Safari, which appears to be the fastest on this website, will not allow me to print the receipts, which makes it unusable for me.

I don't know if I am wasting my time by downloading nightly builds hoping this is being addressed. Maybe I should wait for final version and if it works it works if not just trash it.

Note that I have same problems (no way to turn on background printing or permanently fix margin - both a major PIA BTW). Really odd since these are standard features in Firefox and IE (although the latter handles it rather clumsily). Add my voice to the crowd chanting for a "fix" (copy Firefox if one requires an example, eh).

The background printing issue really should be a browser side issue in case anyone thinks differently. It is the browser that has to formulate the code to preview or print the page before the printer even sees it. Having the background control on the printer would be useless since the printer does not have direct access to the original HTML code ergo it wouldn't have a clue in re to the background information.
