Ya but in your first post it wasn't clear WHERE the iPod icon was that you were dragging. So you could very well have been trying to drag stuff from the iTunes library window to the iPod icon showing on the desk top (Mac) or in "My Computer" (Win) as a disk drive. That comes up from time to time, so had to verify.
OK, next question, how is the iPod setup to update? Are you set to Auto update or manual update? If one of the auto updates, then you can not drag and drop anything onto the iPod. You "sync" it instead. If you right click on the iPod set for auto updating, you will see a "Sync" choice. Pick that and iTunes will update the iPod however it is set to update (the whole library or select playlists).

i am adding audio tracks to another person's ipod, as a favor.. i am not familiar with the details if ipod usage.. from the info on itunes, sync seems it would change the ipod's library contents.. i want everything to stay as is, except for the tracks i want to add..
Ah I see. So how is this iPod configured on its "home" system? Is it set up to auto update? If so, you can not add anything to it without loosing everything on it. To add stuff from two or more computers, you would have to have to set the iPod for Manual updating, then you could add content. But once the person got the iPod back to their computer, if they switched back to auto updating, the stuff you added would be removed.

This is for anyone else that is having this problem. You might also be trying to drag directly from a mounted CD instead of importing the CD first and then copying over to the iPod. I say this because someone here at work was having that problem, until I figured out she was trying to copy directly from the CD to her iPod.
