You're Welcome stilts!

"...you can select lots of folders at the same time...dont have to get info just highlight, ctrl click"
Good points!

"...still rather just change the colour of text..."
Just as there is no method in OS X, to change the font or color of the Menubar, I doubt there is a native procedure to change the folder labels.

There may be Third-Party utilites, but I don't know of any specifically.

And Thank You, for extending the courtesy, of awarding User uploaded file User uploaded file in  Discussions, as this is not a requirement, nor mandatory, but is much appreciated!

thanks, you can select lots of folders at the same time and do the label thing actually, you dont have to get info just highlight, ctrl click and select the colour. brightness and contrast can be adjuste from the keyboard. both these are workarounds which ive already tried, i want to change the text colour.

the other thing you mentioned is interesting, makes some things look a bit weird but saves my eyes i guess. still rather just change the colour of text if anyone knows how?

Hi stilts!

Try this;

On the folders you wish to change, click once on the icon to highlight.
Press the  Command + I keys to Get Info.
In the window that opens, where is says Color label:, click on a color you prefer.

The color of the text remains black, but it is not enclosed in a colored box.

Unfortunately, you must do this for each folder, you wish to change.
Perhaps, a better solution, would be to open System Preferences > Display: and in here adjust the Brightness & Contrast sliders.

Or in System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing: here, under Display:, select White on Black.
