What means "f" character in file/folder names?

Can anyone explain me what means that "f" character (usually in italic) in some file or folder names? (Usually at the end of the file name). How it's been created? And why it's there?

Hi Guntis,

The "f" stands for "Folder". Have a look, and you will see that files would NEVER have that "f" at the end, only folders.

"Applications ƒ" is much shorter to write (and takes up less space in dialogs) than "Applications Folder". And, most importantly, that "f" at the end made it clear it was a Folder even if you didn't have any icons showing in the Finder (trying to save RAM...).

I just checked... I still have 1,471 such "f"-folders on my storage HDs... 🙂
