Display issue with mac mini and Panasonic TH42PZ77U

I've got a new mac mini hooked up to a Panasonic TH42PZ77U 42" 1080P plasma. When I turn the machine on, I get a black border on all four sides of the TV. Is there a way to set the mini to display at full-screen?

Thanks!

You'll have to purchase either DisplayConfigX or SwitchResX and play with custom resolutions/timings. I never got anything to work and eliminate overscan on my Panasonic PT43LC14 RP LCD TV connected to my Mac Mini. I recently purchased a 50" plasma and went with a Samsung because it was the only model (along with the 700 series Panasonic THxx plasmas) that worked right out of the box with no special settings.

Is this a newly purchased TV? I would recommend returning it if it is and finding another one in your price range that works...

Dunno about 42PZ77U, but Mac mini works fine on my Panasonic PY700. I got 1080p pixel-to-pixel-match on my plasma. What I do is to set the output resolution to 1080i or 1080p on the Mac, then set the aspect ratio to 16:9 on your plasma. By setting 1080i/p and 16:9, I will get "Picture Scan" option under the setup menu on my plasma. Turn this option "off", and I will get a best-fit 1080i/p display from my Mac.

It may not work on your PZ77U, but it's worth a look. Remember...it has to be 16:9+1080i/p, or the option won't show up in the menu. Good luck.

Problem solved - read on.

I read your question and was curious. I have an older mac mini and the same tv. I have Switch Res and the display was set to 1920 x 1080 when I connected the mini to the tv using a dvi to hdmi cable.

After connecting the mini to the tv I noticed the menu bar at the top was missing and a small area of the screen on the left and right was not visible.

I went into the Display settings and unchecked the overscan tab. This brought back the top menu bar but shrunk the display area (black borders) so I checked the overscan box again.

I next went into the picture menu settings on the tv menu. I scrolled down to the other adjustments menu. At the bottom of this menu you will see HD size. My TV was set to size 1. I changed the setting to size 2 and everything was now as it should be.

Hi,

I have the same black border issue with my:
Mac Mini (Intel Core Duo, 10.5.2)
Panasonic VIERA TH-42PV60A
http://www.panasonic.com.au/products/specifications.cfm?objectID=3127

I haven't been able to find a HD size setting on this model.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix the black borders?

Perhaps someone has DisplayResX settings for the Panasonic VIERA TH-42PV60A?

Cheers,

Answering my own question:

Panasonic VIERA TH-42PV60A and Mac Mini Core Duo 10.5.2

I just got very close.

I am missing a few pixels off the top.

Step 1. Install DisplayConfigX and register.

Step 2. Define settings as per :
http://lozworld.com/lozwords/mac-mini-displayconfigx-and-panasonic-th42px60b
and click install.

Step 3. Save having to reboot, just UNPLUG/PLUG the DVI cable.

Step 4. Choose the new resolution.
