There's a Spot on My Dock

I like clean windows in the office so hopefully you can see why this is driving me crazy. There is a spot on my dock. Right next to the Trash icon; to the left of the icon. It is about a mm wide and tall. Not quite round. If I make the Dock hide it goes away. If I move icons (temporarily) over it, it is not seen. But when it is just sitting there, there is a spot. Why? How do I clean it? What is wrong?

Hello Donald,

Just try placing your pointer on the spot, depress the mouse, and push the spot into the Desktop. Hope you see a 'puff' icon.

Perhaps trashing your Dock plist is the best bet.

Nope, not that, but that looks cool. Mine looks like an imperfection on the dock itself. I would think it was the monitor if it did not go away with the dock hiding.

That did not work but it gave me another idea (that did not work). I resized the dock and no matter what size it is, or where it is (right, left, or bottom) it stays right there, exactly 60mm from the right edge of the monitor, yet when I hide the Dock it goes away.

The Dock has a "separator" to the left of the trash (and right of the next application). This is the area of the Dock that is reserved for documents and folders.
You can't drag a file to the left side of it and keep it in the Dock.
You'll notice that the Dock "expands" as you drag files or folders to the area.

That looks to me like it's in the icon graphic for the app/file to the left of the spot. What happens when you relocate/remove that icon in the Dock? And which app is it for?

The mark stays right there no matter how big or small the Dock. Grab just happened to be open and is seen to the left of it.

Your dock is clear - at least in the picture.
Have you used any utilities to "clear the dock" to make it transparent?
If so, try doing it again - could be a glitch on the Dock PDF.
Transparent Dock is a good utility.

No, no extra utilities have been used. Where is this Dock PDF? Is it something I can trash and then it will regenerate?

Use transparent dock - get it at versiontracker.com
It can alter the dock (among other things)
The dock is comprised of PDF's, as are many bits of OS X's GUI.
