Restore Failed

While my MBP is in for service I'm using another computer. I exported an icbu file from my computer and attempted to restore it on the other. Whenever I try to restore it I get a "Restore Failed" message. Both computers are running Leopard.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had a similar problem and found a work-around...this may work for you....

I pulled my hard drive out of my MacBook Pro and put a new one in. I put my old drive in an external enclosure. I started using my new drive and a week later, wanted my iCal calendars from my old pulled drive.

I booted from the external drive (holding my orginal hard drive) by holding down the option key as I restarted, choosing it instead of the new internal drive.

After login was completed, I launched my old iCal and "Backed Up" my iCal.

I moved the resulting iCal.icbu file to the desktop of my internal hard drive, having to authenticate with my password in order to transfer the file from one user's account to another.

After logging out and relaunching into my new internal drive, I located the iCal.icbu file and right clicked on it and chose "get info" from the contextual menu....and then untwirled the Sharing & Permissions section at the bottom.

Then I unlocked the lock in the lower right corner...then clicked the plus sign to add a user...I added myself and then made sure that priveleges for me were listed as Read & Write...then I double-clicked on the iCal.icbu file, launching the iCal app...and suddenly the calendars updated!

I actually just had this problem and discovered a relatively simple fix to it. You should be able to perform a backup on the computer you want to restore onto. Then right click on the new (blank) restore file and the old restore file (which has all of your data in it) and click 'Show Package Contents.' Then you can just transfer the contents of the old file into the new file and then try the restore again... It should work.

I have a MacBook running 10.5.2 and a Mac Mini running 10.5.2. I have in the past made changes to iCal on the MacBook, used the "Back up iCal" function to make a backup of iCal on the MacBook, transferred the backup file to my Mac Mini's desktop, double-clicked on the .icbu file, and had the bcakup file restore successfully to the Mac Mini's iCal program.

Unfortunately, now when I follow the exact same procedure, I get a "Restore failed - iCal data has not been changed." error every time I try.

I have deleted the folder located at user/Library/Calendars and deleted the user/Library/preferences files associated with iCal. When I restart iCal, it is back to its default settings. However, when I double-click on the .icbu file, I still get the same failure.

I have checked the permissions for the .icbu file and I have full read/write access. I then tried repairing disk permissions, but there was no change. I finally deleted the iCal application from the Mini and copied the iCal program from the MacBook to the Mini. Again, the same error.

I have been able to manually copy the user/Library/Calendars folder to the Mini and have all my data show up in iCal there. However, this does not fix the problem. I do not want a work-around, I want to know how to fix the problem.

Do I need to remove every trace of iCal from the Mini and reinstall it? I thought I had done that, but perhaps there are some "hidden" files or folders that need to be removed to truly get rid of the program.

Thanks!
