Wi-Fi address = MAC Address?

Wi-Fi address = MAC Address?

I was interested in limited the Wi-Fi in my house to the MAC addresses of my devices I would like to connect to it. I do not see a "MAC" address under the about on the phone, but there is a Wi-Fi Address. Is this the same thing??

jetflo19,

Yes, the iPhone's WiFi Hardware address is listed as "WiFi Address". The hardware address for bluetooth is listed as "Bluetooth Address".

not sure if I made sense earlier. I am trying to isolate my wireless network by the MAC addresses on the Linksys router I am using. I thought every Wi-Fi enabled device carried a MAC address and on the router you can limit the devices ability to connect to the Wi-Fi network by that address. I assumed the Wi-Fi address listed on the Iphone under about was the MAC address. I am not at my house or I would just try it and find out!

am I making any sense??? 🙂

Yes, it is called MAC Address filtering. The WiFI address is the address you would use. Depending on your router you may need to replace the :'s with -'s.

However, without other security your network may still be vulnerable. Many implementations of MAC Address filtering allow computers to join the network, but not get DHCP.

So I would still recommend using WPA if possible, and WEP at the least.
