I have had my macbook about a year and a half now, but for some reason the plastic where my palms sit, is startin to crack, does anyone know where i can maybe buy the top piece of plastic where your palms sit? i would like to have it replaced because it doesnt look good and it is annoying.
has anyone else had this problem?
thanks!
Extremely common issue. Take it to the apple store and they will replace the palm-rest area if you have applecare. Even if your warranty is out, I would still have them look at it as they might replace it.
ok awesome thanks, it cracks along the edges, in little strips, and i had to break one off, but there is another that i dont want to do that to, but it keep poking my wrist like a sticker or something.
Have you resolved this issue yet? I just noticed the exact same problem on my MacBook and I'm wondering how easy it is to get it fixed without AppleCare.
Apple has recognized this as a design flaw and it can be replaced at any Apple Store for free, no questions asked. I had the same problem and took it in, they didn't even ask to see my AppleCare. It isn't a permanent fix, the ones that they replace them with crack also, but they will continue replacing them.
I don't have Applecare on my 19 month old MacBook and Apple have just replaced the complete top and keyboard assembly for free without any hassle. They seem to recognise it's now a problem even though I've not seen it mentioned anywhere on their website (unlike the BatteryUpdater 1.2 issue).
I had to book a Genius Bar appointment but this is very easy via the Apple website. You need to navigate to and choose a retail store, then a Genius Bar icon appears on the left where you can click and book an appointment. It does mean you have to plan ahead a bit, but they wouldn't accept a 'walk-in'. It was taken in on a Sunday afternoon and was ready late morning the next day.
