You are messing with X's built in default icons - this is unadvisable. ICNS are system provided and should not be modified as a rule. To change all files of a type use CandyBar , it allows safe modification of these icons without damaging the originals.
How do I change the icon for file types using ICNS files? I know how to copy and paste icons into files, but when I copy and paste the contents of the ICNS file, it shows up with a black border. A workaround for this is to copy all the ICNS file's data into an icon editor application and apply it to a file, but anyways, either of these methods only change individual files, not all the files of a certain type (extension).

CandyBar does not work for me, it does not allow me to change files of a certain type.
Well, I found out that it's not possible to change all icons of files of a certain type unless it is included with the application used to open them. However, is there an AppleScript or something that I could use to change the icons semi-manually?
