Keyboard Firmware Update Disabled Built-in Keyboard & Trackpad

Hi All,

Since installing the Feb 19th keyboard firmware update, my built-in keyboard/trackpad no longer work at all. They are non-responsive from startup and therefore cannot boot from disk/bootcamp etc..

If I plug in an external USB keyboard and mouse, the external keyboard/mouse both work fine but the internal keyboard and trackpad still do not function. I tried to manually download and re-install the keyboard firmware update but it states that I already have the latest version installed. Nothing seemed amiss when I upgraded the keyboard firmware except that upon successful "Software Update" download, the firmware update did not automatically launch until I shut the computer down. When I did it asked for my username/password to install the firmware update and the update seemed to install fine.

Any help would be greatly appreciated....!

My apologies. When I completed the software update, the program in my Utilities folder: Built-In Keyboard Firmware Update, did NOT automatically run.

When I restarted, it did perform an update which I believed simply updated the keyboard firmware. However, this was not the case. After this point, my internal keyboard and mouse were unresponsive but I could use an external keyboard and mouse.

I went into my Utilities folder: Built-In Keyboard Firmware Update and ran the program, updated the firmware and instantly regained internal trackpad and keyboard functionality.

Problem solved!!!

I am also having this problem, it has been on computers that have been imaged from a machine that had the firmware update already installed. The update won't open automatically, even if it is restarted. I have to perform it manually.

I have been experiencing complete failure of trackpad and keyboard since installing. When the update was released on Wednesday, I ignored it since I had not been having this issue. This morning my keyboard and trackpad froze up twice and I had to reboot. I installed the update, repaired permissions, still non responsive. Zapped PRAM (NVRAM). Nope.

USB mouse and keyboard work, and I have managed to have about 1 minute of internal keyboard use. Apple support had me repair permissions from Disk Utility on the hard drive and also from startup disk. No go.

I've tried to run the firmware again but get the "already up to date" message.

I've already lost an entire day of productivity and it isn't looking any better. Anyone else experiencing this?

Applied the keyboard patch.
working fine for 2 days.
keyboard stops working when macbook pro is NOT plug into power.
When it is plug in not a single problem.
Very Strange...
Could it be battery problem?

I`m having some weird problems with keyboard after installing upgrade.

First of all, I had to manually install it, because every time I ran update it was still there, untill I installed through the Applications > Utilities folder.

Then, the keyboard and mouse menu just stopped to work. I can`t change my keyboard shortcuts and when I open Mighty mouse preferences through bluetooth icon on screen, it says I don`t have a mouse connected, but Mighty mouse is working perfectly.

So I have a question...if you don't see the Built-In Firmware update.app in your Applications-Utilities, and you try to run the upgrade again by downloading the DMG from Apple, and it says your computer already has this functionality and doesn't need the update, what can you do then? My keyboard and mouse are currently dead. I'm using USB...

I did a complete reinstall with no luck, and actually received a "There is no keyboard connected" message upon reboot. You may have to bite the bullet and cash in your Apple Care points.

Hi any news on this?
My installer for the Update Package worked fine the first time, after the restart my trackpad and keyboard no longer work at all. When I try to reaplly the patch, it crashes, and the system profiler. I checked for internal keyboard in the system profiler but could not find any. This problems seems to be more common than one would expect....

Did anybody ever get it fixed?

Just did this update recently and my MBP now has no keyboard or trackpad. Solve one minor problem and make another HUGE one. Thanks Apple! Do you actually test anything?

And P.S. This question is not answered. The problem still exists. Using the keyboard firmware updater in the utilities folder doesn't work. It returns an error saying "this updater is not compatible with this computer. Use Software Update to check for keyboard firmware updates." After you're finished reading that you click "quit" but it doesn't. It keeps coming back. The only way to exit that updater is to force it.

Does anyone know of a way to revert to older firmware? A website out there? Anything? I can't keep toting around a usb keyboard with me everywhere I go.

You know, windows has a way of uninstalling updates... Just putting it out there.

Where is this? I was under the impression that there was no way to roll back with update? I am desperate to find a fix for this freezing issue. My macbook pro can no longer be used. I've called Apple but have basically been told to jump because I don't have applecare, even though their software update caused this problem! Help!
