Flash crashes Safari

For some time now, Safari keeps crashing and crashing, more then 10 times a day. The crash-report shows that Flash is the problem.

I removed Flash with the Remover Tool and re-installed it, then repaired permissions. However, it didn't help. I repeated the steps several times.

Any ideas how to proceed?

The Flash uninstaller doesn't delete all the Flash files.
Use EasyFind to locate all the Flash files and folders.

Then Repair Permissions with your Disk Utility.

This latest version of Flash is exhibiting oddities in certain instances, including crashes, freezes etc. IMO it's not ready for prime time. After removing the Flash items per Tom's post, consider "downgrading" to an earlier version of Flash. Have a look here for instructions.

If that doesn't stop the crashes, post the crash report here.

I'm experiencing similar issues too when visiting any websites containing embedded SWF (YouTube is a classic example). Except in my instance, Safari causes the whole system to 'lockup'. Sometimes I'm fortunate enough to be able to force quit Safari. But more often than not I have to power-off and restart my entire machine. Our iBook is exhibiting very similar issues, albeit it is only Safari that freezes and can be force quitted.

I've tried just about every troubleshooting tip short of reinstalling Leopard. We clean installed Leopard on all of out machines back in October. I've tried the reinstalling of Flash Player to 9r47 (as discussed above) but to no avail. It's definitely a Safari issue - Firefox and Opera are running solid.

That's happened to me too prior to "downgrading". However, I haven't had a problem either with the latest or earlier Flash plug-in when viewing YouTube content. Make sure you don't have multiple version of Flash installed, i.e. in your HD>Library>Internet Plug-ins and Your User Account>Library>Internet Plug-ins.

I wish I could say your advice worked, but sadly it didn't. My user account internet plugins folder was empty and contained nothing. The system Internet Plugin's folder contained a few different files relating to RealPlayer, Shockwave and Flash. I deleted all of these plugins (used un-installer for the flash plugin) and reinstalled the archival version of Flash. The only plugins I left were ones relating to QuickTime and Flip4Mac which were updated only days ago.

But like I say, the problem still persists. Additionally, another Safari problem I have is some websites like the Apple website here never finish loading. As I'm typing this, I'm looking at the address bar and the status bar has only spanned 2/3 across. Although it would be really easy to just trash Safari and use Firefox, I do prefer Safari as my browser of choice and want to get to the bottom of these issues.

My ISP is Eclipse. I'm using an Airport Extreme Basestation (2006 model) to connect to the internet which in turn uses a D-Link ethernet Modem. Each Mac uses an inbuilt Airport Card. Naturally I would assume this to be an internet connectivity issue, but Firefox is displaying flash perfectly and is not crashing or locking my system up. These problems have occurred since upgrading to 10.5.2. I use OpenDNS for my DNS.

Hi Will

Regarding the incomplete page loads, from your description I suspect the problem may lie in either the Ethernet Modem or AE basestation. Have you tried a hard reset with either unit, i.e. unplug the Modem and press the reset button on the AE? Sometimes this is all it takes to get these things in synch. Also, make sure you have the latest firmware installed for both units.

If the problem persists, I suggest you repost to the Airport forum.
