Abrupt Random Logout in Leopard

I have also been having this problem. I think it's about the same time of day and am starting to track it. Has Apple not even addressed this issue?!?

Same here. Usually when doing a "command-RETURN" in Entourage 2004 (Leopard, intel).

This is on my iBook G4. (10.5.4)

It's constant now. It happens sporadically but also predictably whenever I restart the computer, a few seconds later, it logs out. At first I thought it was crashing, but I created a new user and tried logging in on that one.
Result: User 1 still crashes after restart and login; user 2 doesn't crash.

I don't know if it's related, but at the exact same time, my Screen Share for Mobile Me went kaput and I have not been able to restore its use on either user.

I suspect some of the other discussion points referencing "random restart" are the same thing only they don't have another user identified.

When I review my crash log, it tells me there's a dozen screen share crashes but also:
SystemUIServer 2008-07-27-140834ibook-2.crash but admittedly I have no idea what "systemUIServer" is for.

Quick update,

After a night of testing I have found that my random logout is occurring only after a restart. I login, the desktop forms, I start a program or two (doesn't matter which ones) and within a couple of minutes, it logs me out.

Add me to the list of getting the abrupt logouts during work in Excel. Didn't happen when I was using Excel 2008, but does in 2004. Funny - I like 2004 better for Word and now I like 2008 better for Excel.

Same here. Haven't been able to pinpoint it to a particular app, driver, or process. Seemingly random, 1 or twice a week. Running Leopard, latest version in Software Update. Not limited to just this machine but not present on all other machines with same set-up either. Below is the log from the crash earlier.

I am also getting a com.apple.WindowServer segfault:

This has been happening about weekly. I am always running Entourage, so that might be it; I'm also always running FireFox.

This problem never (?) happened on my MacBook Pro or Powerbook running 10.2-10.4. It has happened weekly for the last two months since I bought the Mac Pro w/Leopart 10.5 preinstalled.

This is making me refrain from upgrading my other two macs to 10.5. Has anybody heard a peep from AAPL on this?

This has to be a software issue. I cloned my MacPro and used the clone (a completely different MacPro machine) for a few days and the random logouts continued. Usually it happens after I've put the computer to sleep - when I wake it up I see that it has tried to logout. I've taken to leaving a few browser tabs open in Firefox or Safari so that the logout process is interrupted. I will note that it has happened while I'm logged in as well, just not all that frequently. Come on Apple, let's fix this issue!

Note that the other thread says this has been reported to apple through a poster who has a developer connection membership, but Apple closed it as a duplicate and there haven't been any updates about it.

Ensure that "Logout after x minutes of inactivity" is NOT checked under System Preferences > Security > General.

Could it really be this simple? How did this get turned on?

A "ditto" here. First time this has happened and I've been using OS X since ~ 2001. On 10.5.6 now. Open apps included Mail, Excel 2008, Navicat, OmniFocus, Safari, Filemaker, iCal.

The only recent changes I can think of are 1) upgraded to 10.5.6 yesterday; 2) just upgraded to Filemaker 10 this week. The other open apps are ones I run all the time and haven't been updated lately.

The console log entry that kicked off the forced logout was:

As others have noted, there's nothing else in the console log that provides useful clues.

Just adding another to the list. Got hit with it twice today running itunes, firefox, mail, filemaker omnifocus, parallels, transmit, coda, photoshop, adium, and launchbar. MacPro, quadcore, 7 gigs of ram, unhappy...

No clear symptom, happened different programs each time.
