LAME download

I am having trouble downloading LAME so that I can export some files from Audacity as mp3s. When I download from the LAME site, I get a folder on my desktop called libmp3lams-osx-universal-3.97. I get a warning to say that the download contains a program to which i click "proceed". The thing is that the folder does seem to contain a program; the "read me" file tells me that the "build script" is meant to be run on a PPC Mac, and that to run on an Intel based one it will need modification. I suspect that this is outside my competence as a computer user. Is there an easy fix to this or an alternative mp3 encoder that can be recommended (Audacity always tries to fine LAME when i try to export)
