Hello. I just restored my Mac to a single partition and now it won't let me re-partition it, so I can't install Windows, so here's my question. When I was running Windows, I would go to Start -> Run and then type in "telnet student.ccbcmd.edu" and run it. Can anyone tell me how I can do something like this with Mac OS X? Is there an equivalent to the "Run" function in Windows? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
You can open Spotlight, type in the application's name and click on the application in the listing to launch it. Or, go to the Apple->Recent Items menu and select the application from there. Both will launch the application of your choice.
Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. Unix has a telnet application you can run from the command line. At the terminal prompt enter 'man telnet' for the help page(s). There are also several telnet applications available for the Mac. You'll find them at
VersionTracker or
MacUpdate. They don't require a command line interface.
There is not a similar functionality to Window's Run command because Mac users don't need to use the command line.
Old Toad -- what I need the Run equivalent for isn't actually an application, so I don't think Spotlight will work for that, but I really appreciate your taking the time to answer my question.
Kappy -- that was the answer I was looking for. It logged me in to my community college's student Linux box perfect. Worked like a charm, so thanks alot.
