JDK 1.5 on MAC OS X

Can anyone assist me in locating where the Java JDK is installed on the computer. I have installed Eclipse and I wanted to make sure that it was using the JDK 1.5. I am having problems locating the directory path were the JDK is installed. Any help would be great.

You could install Java 5.0 (1.5) SE 2 and then use the Java Preferences application to select it as your preference.

Here's the link:

If you're adventuresome there's a beta update preview also, but beware and read the notes:

I can see the following:

0 drwxr-xr-x 8 root wheel 272 May 16 16:50 1.5.0
0 drwxr-xr-x 6 root wheel 204 Sep 22 19:47 A

8 lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 5 Sep 14 09:58 CurrentJDK -> 1.4.2

Using the supplied Java 5.0 Pref appl does not change this.

I am running 10.4.2 on my G4 Powerbook and noticed that 1.4.2 was the only Java listed. When I went to follow these commands and double clicked on the java preferences I got a window saying:

Could not launch the application because it requires a version of Java that is not installed.

This application requires Java 1.5, but only the following Java versions are installed: 1.4.2, 1.3, 1.3.1, 1.4. Updating to a newer version of Mac OS X may resolve this.

How should I proceed????

Thanks so much for the link. I added 1.5 but upon trying the earlier links instructions to activate it I could no longer get the Terminal to acknowledge which version of java it was running as well as the problem of renaming the java files, it would not allow me. Is this a problem? has 1.5 been initiated after all?

Hi, I hope you see this reply. I am desperately trying to figure out how to install Eclipse on the mac. I have downloaded the file from the Eclipse site, unpacked it, and every clue I read indicates the actual Eclipse app file will be in the top level Eclipse directory....except the only thing in that directory is the plugins folder.

How do I actually install Eclipse?
