Question about ATV and purchased TV shows

Is it possible to purchase TV shows from the AppleTV and have them downloaded to the AppleTV's hard drive but not have them synced to my Mac? I'd like to buy TV shows and have them stored only on the AppleTV and not on my Mac, since it's a MacBook Pro with not enough hard drive space to keep the TV shows I'd like to save and play on AppleTV.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

Mine don't automatically sync back to the itunes library but that may well be because I've chosen not to sync tv shows.

I have TV Shows setup in iTunes to NOT sync, yet they still do…

Perhaps mine just haven't got around to syncing back then before I manually transfer them, I want my purchases to be on my itunes library as well and maybe I just don't let the autosync take effect.

Once again.... the AppleTV is designed to be a "mirror" of your own iTunes media drive. (whether internal or external) and it is NOT a separate media drive unto itself.

I understand that you have a notebook computer, but you should really consider a wireless external hard-drive for all your media. (in some flavor of RAID)

My backpack is already as full as I'd like, don't want to have to lug around another hard drive just to listen to tunes on my MacBook Pro.

I'm confused then, why, if it's not allowed to pick and choose what's synced between the Mac and AppleTV, they allow you to turn on and off the individual pieces of syncing in iTunes…

…if that's the way it has to be, I'll learn to live with it I guess.

You could always keep two iTune libraries, one on a external drive, (video), and keep some or all of your music on your MBP.

I have a 500GB Lacie external hooked to my iMac, and Atv is one of the devices, My wife has a limited iTune library on her MB, and she will access the main library when she is home and has the need
