UK Movie Downloads

I do not intend to start a flame war of any kind. I am just a customer, a little bemused as to what is going on with the ability (or inability) for people in the UK to be able to download movies, when the option has been open in the states for quite some time.

Is there anyone out there who can provide a rough idea on if and when this service is coming?

/puts on flame retardant jacket.

When they were introduced the announcement concerning movie "rentals" was that they hope to roll them out to other stores later this year. However it's worth remembering that the plan that was announced when the "purchased" movies were first introduced in the US was to roll them out to other stores sometime in 2007 which obviously didn't happen. When it will actually happen will obviously depend on film companies and other copyright holders. These are quite often completely different from country to country and therefore all require their own individual contract negotiations.

I completely understand where you are coming from but i often wonder what the apparently huge difference between music copyright and film copyrights are. Both are ruled by the British Broadcasting Federation (or a name similar to that.)

Just wondering if anyone has a penciled idea as to what kind of time frame we in the UK are looking at.

Not necessarily. Recording studios and films studios face the same kind of international problems. Licenses differ from country to country and have to be negotiated separately. The BBC is only one of many film companies producing content.

Nobody here will be able to answer that.
