I have a Brother HL-1440 laser printer, currently connected via USB to Airport Express. I am replacing the Airport Express with an Airport Snow, which has only ethernet ports, no USB. Can I use a usb to ethernet converter at the Brother printer USB port to access the USB port and connect it then via the ethernet end of the plug adapter to the Airport Snow ethernet port and achieve wireless printing? Thanks,
This may sound really stupid, but I have never needed or used a print server. Is that another piece of equipment, a software program, or....what? I've always just been able to connect my printers to my airport and print. Too easy, right?
In this case, a print server is a piece of hardware, so it is equipment. The protocols for printing are different for Ethernet and USB, so in addition to the mechanical conversion, there is signal conversion as well.
You might be able to get a wireless to USB print server, either Airport or Bluetooth, so would not need Ethernet, either.
