Cracked Display

I cracked my display today, entirely my fault and I take full responsibility. I know it won't be covered by Apple Care, and I also cannot afford to replace it on my own at the time being. Right now my screen is still usable, and actually doesn't bother me much, but from what I've been reading these cracks will only get worse. Is there anything I can do to stop the cracks from spreading? Or is it just a matter of time until they cover the screen? I've actually noticed improvement in the couple of hours since it got damaged, is that good or will it just get worse anyway?

Here is a picture of the screen:

You cannot feel any of the cracks on the surface, it appears that most of the cracks begin just below the iSight camera, which still functions properly. The longest crack extends nearly all of the way to the bottom left corner, and at first had the same blue discoloration as the rest of the crack, but that discoloration has mostly gone away.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You

Welcome to Apple Discussions, jcook42

It's not a Mac, but I have a Sony laptop that I dropped resulting in a MUCH worse "crack" than yours. The crack has not changed in several years.

My guess is that your screen will not get worse unless it encounters further "stress," and if it is improving, so much the better. If you can live with it, you really have nothing to lose because you know it will not be covered by warranty regardless of when you fix it.

If you do have it repaired, I suggest that you have the work done by an Apple-Authorized Service Provider.

Glad to see somebody else brought up using your home owner's or renter's insurnace policy to cover your notebook PC (MacBook). It is a good idea.

By the way, do a Google search or Ebay search for your MacBook screen. I found an LG-Philips exact replacement panel listed for $169. Whith care and patience, you can replace the screen yourself. There is no soldering required.

www.ifixit.com has very good instructions on how to disassemble various Apple products.
