Connecting Camera via firewire to Macbook air?

As you have discovered, the MacBook Air is not really designed for video editing. It has a relatively slow processor, small hard drive, no firewire, no DVD burner. It is really designed as a second computer, or a computer for someone whose primary needs are word processing, internet, and email.

If you purchased it within the last two weeks, you may be able to take it back to the Apple Store and trade it in on a MacBook or a MacBook Pro.

This is no problem, do not be discouraged!!!! The reason you are having problems with your USB card reader is most likely because it doesn't handle the high capacity (SDHC) card that you are using in your video camera. Most of the SDHC cards come with their own little USB card reader, but if yours didn't just pick one up at Radio Shack. Make sure the one you get specifically handles SDHC.

I have the Panasonic AVCHD camera and I have used it with iMovie 08 on my macBook Air, NO PROBLEM. It's not exactly zippy, but it works just fine. Get the correct card reader and you will be all set. Enjoy.

MacBook Air does not have Firewire.

Keep the faith, it will work. It appears though that is may not be a MacBook Air issue, but rather an iMovie issue. Have you posted in the iMovie discussions or, better yet, called Apple tech support? You have a brand new computer, so you are entitled to call and get an answer. I think you will find that they are quite knowledgeable and eager to help. I will have a look through the iMovie discussions to see what I might find there.
