How to stop uncontrolled scrolling

Whenever I am paging down in a document - any application - by clicking in the empty space in the scroll bar, after a few clicks the scrolling just goes out of control and all of a sudden I am 5 or so pages down from where I want to be.

There must be a way of stopping this in system preferences but I can't find it.

Thanks

Tom

Go in System Preferences > Appearances and try checking or unchecking "smart scrolling." See it that makes any difference. Also, login to another User account and see if it does it there too.

I'm having exactly the same problem. It's intermittent and hard to duplicate, but you will be scrolling down a page at a time and it will suddenly take off as if you were holding down the click pad. I thought the click pad might be stuck, but if it were you would be able to pull the curser away and then bring it back and scrolling would continue, but it doesn't. I thought it might be a hardware problem, but since I'm hearing about this happening to others it seems that it's software related.

Incidentally, It doesn't seem to matter what program that I'm using.

Anyone have any ideas?
