Apple TV Download Error 8008

Hi,

I just rented Transformers HD through Apple TV and it started downloading, but then it stopped and gave "Download Error 8008".
No matter how many times I click Check for Purchases it won't resume downloading.
And I know the problem has nothing to do with firewalls or internet connection because I can watch YouTube and browse the store.
Normally with iTunes you just delete the relative temporary download file and then check for purchases. But this is not possible on Apple TV.

Does anyone have any solution to this? or is it $4.99 gone.

Thanks,
H.A.

My fault, most errors are negative errors, I took yours as (-8008).

Very difficult to have a stab at the problem here, could do with an error log, which of course you haven't got. It seems the  servers are refusing to send you the file because they incorrectly or correctly believe your tv is not authenticating itself. This is nothing to do with your account not being authorised or anything like that but rather a protocol thing.

Have you ever purchased anything from itms before, either from the tv or your mac/pc.

I had same problem with Simpsons' Movie in HD. I also got another error message later when the download stopped again. (don't remember the code though) I just kept trying again by going back to Settings>download and it completely downloaded today. I was thinking it was my base station (Graphite) but then today (Sunday) it downloaded without a hitch. Was the store just too busy on Saturday night? I haven't played the movie yet.

Hashman -- Sorry about your issue. I too have had the same error on downloading an HD movie via the AppleTV. I started the download then went to bed, woke up the next AM to find the download failed. Unfortunately no amount of "Checking for Downloads" in the Settings menu fixed it, in fact it's still there, not fully downloaded.

If you use your Mac to download and it fails, there is actually a process by which you can delete the partial file and restart the download, I have found this does work but ONLY on your Mac proper, not the AppleTV. I did follow the "Report a Problem" process and have yet to receive a credit, perhaps it's pending I simply don't know. Hopefully this will get fixed soon, otherwise I sympathize and wish you luck! Sorry.

I had the same thing happen last night with an episode of Rome. However, I can download other things successfully; tried an episode of the Sopranos and it downloaded with no problem. Still cannot download the Rome episode this morning. Tried unplugging the Apple TV box for a few minutes and plugging it back in again (this has worked on some other errors in the past), but it didn't help.

Could be nothing to do with authorisation as I originally thought and may well be corruption in the download directory. The first step would be to obtain a credit for the purchase. You may well wish to try purchasing the movie again although you may well encounter problems again and this is entirely up to you, indeed  may even suggest you try the movie at a later date and not straight away.

I have an Apple TV the 2.1 software. I downloaded 3 seasons of Deadwood. Episode 12 of Season 2 is the only episode that did not download completely. I am getting an 8008 error at 45% downloaded. This *****! I can't determine a way to delete this file, other than perhaps doing a factory restore of the unit, and then upgrading my Apple TV OS from 1.0 to 2.1.... Not really worth all that to me.
