How to stop Apple spam emails (really)

I have been receiving lots of undesired e-mails from Apple ever since I registered my purchase of OS10.5. I have gone to the preferences portion of the Apple web site and made sure that all the "contact me" and "subscriptions" boxes are un-checked, but still the e-mails keep coming. Shame on Apple for being part of the e-mail spam problem.

Mac G4, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

It would help if the unsubscribe link actually changed your preferences. Even though the web site says "+You have been unsubscribed from our email list. Best Wishes.+" each time I click it, the emails keep coming and the subscription boxes are still checked under "My Info."

Liars.

p.s. If anyone from apple is reading this... Please fix the account creation process so that a proper error message comes up if the desired account name is taken instead of just forcing new users to guess why we have to re-enter our info.

dane1234,

Exactly what are you receiving, that you consider "spam"?

Ali has a good question. In fact, could you paste the entire content of one of these emails here, including headers (From, Subject, etc.) That would help us to figure out what exactly you're subscribed to and how to get unsubscribed.

It would be best for your own sake if you delete the "To" header and anything that includes your email address or personal identifiers, just to protect you from the most nefarious types of spammers, who sometimes harvest email addresses from forums like this.

I don't know how relevant this is but some of my friends complained about "Apple spam" that was not from Apple but from some source loosely promoting itself as connected with Apple in some way, especially in reference to "free" or other too-good-to-be-true offers.

A quick look at the headers showed these emails were not from Apple & checking the "unsubscribe" link showed it was almost certainly just a spammer's trick to confirm that the email address was an active one. Of course, clicking the link wouldn't unsubscribe them from anything; it just would increase the spam they received.

Still getting lots of Apple spam email. My personal settings have long since been changed to indicate that I don't wish to receive marketing (or any) e-mails from Apple, and I have no RSS subscriptions. My pleas to Apple support to get them to stop sending their spam have gone un-answered. What DISGUSTING behavior by a company that I once had a high opinion of. The only solace is I see that my complaint has been viewed 346 times by others. Let that be a warning to others that if you make the mistake of registering your purchase of Apple software, you will open yourself up to un-ending spam e-mails from Apple.

Dane may not be responding but it looks like the email address is no longer visible in the user profile, so perhaps he (or she?) is lurking & has realized these emails indeed were not from Apple.

That would explain the lack of an unsubscribe link in them that the rest of us see in legitimate Apple emails, would it not?

Perhaps if you choose to Hide your Email address, in your Public Profile, the amount od spam will eventually subside.

I think it's unlikely that Dane's problem resulted from having his email address in his profile, since he signed up on the day he posted this topic.

It's entirely possible he's receiving spam from a non-Apple source, but not due to his Discussions profile originally showing his email address.
