i have a friend who has borrowed a hd camcorder and tried to import the files (recorded as hd) but it came up as an mtc file which he cant see to import in to his software. does anyone know firstly what the file format is and secondly if he burnt the video on to dvd would i be able to import them in to fce?
A bit more information please. What camcorder? How was the material imported? What application? There is no file format that's .mtc. There is a .mts, but this doesn't work in FCE. It's an MPEG-2 transport file.
If they record in AVCHD and copy contents of the WHOLE drive onto a folder on another drive or onto a DVD if it will fit you should be able to import it. They absolutely MUST copy the entire folder and file structure from the hard drive or it will not work. The SD format does not work with FCE and would need to be converted to QuickTime DV.
