Playstation Portable (PSP System Compatibility)

I want to ask whether a Mac can read the PSP Memory Stick as a external drive when it is plugged in via USB mini-B because i want to update the PSP system. If it doesn't then i won't need to purchase the cable. Thanks if anyone can help
