Transfer AppleCare to New MacBook?

I purchased a white Macbook about a year and a half ago. I purchased a 3-year AppleCare package at the same time. I decided to replace my original MacBook with the newest version of the white MacBook which came out a couple of days ago. Can I transfer the existing AppleCare package to the new one? And if so how do I go about making the change with Apple?

White MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.2), 2.1 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

If you have your AppleCare policy at hand you can read the terms of service, if not, they are here on the AppleCare pages. Basically AppleCare is tied to a computer. If you sell a computer AppleCare can be transferred to the new user. If the computer is stolen or destroyed you receive a prorated refund. In the case of a customer receiving a replacement computer from Apple for a lemon there are a few hoops to jump through to get the AppleCare policy connected to that replacement computer. If you are buying a new computer you have to buy new AppleCare. I assume you are selling the old computer - the fact that it has AppleCare on it is a good selling point.

Technically, you can.... however, your coverage will start from the date you activated the AppleCare on the original machine.

If you have 18mo of Applecare left, and bought a new Macbook today, you'll get 18months of AppleCare only (6mo past the limited warranty).

In the end, you should just get a new AppleCare for your new machine sometime within the next year.
