Help installing Darwin on x86

I'm trying to install Darwin 8.01 on my Dell Dimension 8400 Pentium 4 HT, 2 hard drives. The RAID setting has been changed to ATA. I'm using Grub and have Ubuntu 5.10 and Windows XP installed on Drive 1 and I was hoping to install Darwin on Drive 2. I have 8MB bootloader partition formatted ext3 just incase my machine has boot problems of HFS+ as I've heard about some people having. It is set as a bootable partition. Anyway I have to boot the CD into safe mode to run the installer or else I'll get a kernel panic and the installer will not run. Is there any way to change this so I don't have to boot into safe mode?

P. S. I have already tried turning off the USB recognition in the BIOS.

I have tried there. The documentation, like most Apple documentation, is either right on target for select topics or completely vauge. I am still waiting to hear from the BSDForum about this question too. I just thought it would be worth a shot to try an Apple forum since Apple produced it and there is no Darwin section in Apple discussions unfortunately. I thought it was worth a shot since Tiger is based on Darwin.
