error code 0x8002006e burn issue

Hi, I have read all the threads on this issue and no answer.
Apparently this is happening a lot. I have burned one cd-r that worked on my new mac pro, (month old) and now I cannot burn anymore without the error code 0x8002006e unable to verify. I can although reinsert the disk and it will read and can open random files, but who trusts a disk with errors??

I have shut down all programs to burn the disk and have restarted my finder.
I've used Sony CD-R's and Memorex DVD-R which both worked fine on Tiger on my other computer,my pc dell laptop and my external duplicator.

Running 10.5.2 all updated installed.

I have wasted about 7 cd-r / dvd-r both. I have the standard superdrive from apple, and I have installed a pioneer from an old imac g4, (apple techs said it was compatible), and received the error in both drives. I can burn via my external lightscribe duplicator and it works great.

Apple doesn't reopen until Monday and hopefully it's an issue that can be resolved now.

Any suggestions would be wonderful!!! Unfortunately the nearest Apple store is 2 hours away 😟

Hi to everyone having this 0x80020063 come up when your trying to use your "supper" ! drive.

I've had all the issues your all talking about with my 27" iMac on and off for some time.

Some brands media will work some will not!

Anything i slot in wont work!

Slow speeds seem to help for a while then don't etc, etc, etc.....

Drove me crazy for some time especially as Apple seem in complete denial of having any such problems! I've had macs from the LC II "1993", Performa 475s etc, all the way up to the modern units we use now and macintosh I'me sad to say have always had this attitude towards there customers so no surprise there for me!

I can't speak for other units other than the ones i own myself so I restrict this to iMac under i3, i5 and i7 processors, iBook G4, Powermac G4 and Mac Book Pro i5.

All have there own little niggles like all machines but the two i would pick out for this particular issue would be the modern upright iMacs and the much older G4s. these Macs are DUST machines sucking in and over heated DUST HOOVERS. Don't get the idea I'me dishing them there great machines but a design fault of both is sucking in dust. I would have to open the G4 up every 6 months or so and literally take the hoover to it to get all the overheated dust from inside it.

The iMac is a real problem in that its a sealed unit and so your stuffed in trying to do anything to solve this problem. My lovely 27" screen is slowly getting darker and darker as the dust monster fills up and leeks dust into the corners turning it a dull brown " burnt Dust" colour and its not just the screen that suffers from this, the CD, DVD read and especially burn features get a good liberal soaking in the stuff.

As soon as i get a hint of none reading or none recognition of a disc out comes my lens cleaning disc and as i've said this unit is enclosed so swabbing is impossible so i use a WET disc system then once this has finished i then leave it to dry off and repeat this with a dry cleaning disc. This works relay well and the issues i once had have all gone.

Apple your Disc Drives are not sealed properly as is your iMac screens !!!!

Problem solved. All brands and speeds work fine and no error 0x80020063 which just means "media" issues. Very misleading error message.

It's not misleading at all.

  • The hardware reported a media error.
  • Mac OS X is returning the hex code for that media error.

The message in no way suggests or advocates a reason for the error or what actions to take to mitigate it; that's all here and on other sites.

Hi Guys,

I had the same error and noticed that this started happeneing after i installed 'total finder' on my machine. I wasted around 4 cd's trying to burn discs on the total finder but always encountered this error msg. So i forced quit the total finder and burned on regular finder ( data discs @ max speed) and it worked liked a charm. Then i tried the same experiment on another mac that i own and guess what.... exact same story!!

Hope it helps some of you.

Cheers

Hey there,

I had the same problem on a Mac Mini (2011) with OSX 10.7.5. I shut down my parallels desktop, restarted the mac and when I burned the DVD+R I set the burn speed to 4x. Did the trick for me. I had tried burning with Nero, Toast etc ... with no luck. The method above at least let me burn through the native osx utility by dragging and dropping the files onto the empty DVD.

Hope this helps.

Inspect the DiscRecording.log as to the exact time Verify started and the exact time Verify failed. If the Fail time is within several seconds (typically around 4 or 5 seconds) then you have a FALSE Verify Fail. There is likely NOTHING wrong with the disc you just burned, rather what happened is that the OS has munged the com.apple.finder.plist file once again. Simply DELETE this file from your /Users/Library/Preferences folder and the OS will create a fresh new one upon next reboot. And make note of this proceedure AS IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN.

BURN FOLDER was originally a 3rd party software that was unique and effective, It must have had some sort of VERIFY function but I can't remember- need to pull it out of my archives. Apple bought it and built it into the OS, but with two issues remaining to this day. One, the pref gets munged with regularity. Two, VERIFY cannot be independently run, say if you wanted to COMPARE the 'bad' disc to the source folder bit by bit. Can't do it. Come on (!!) even DOS had COMPARE program in every version. And to have an OS failure like this hiding behind a hardware error code year after year is really rich!!

this is horrendous

its yet another problem ive found with this heap of junk

will never give apple another penny again

Try better blank CDs.

The hardware is getting a media error trying to burn the CD; you'd get the same error trying to burn the same blanks at the same speed in any other OS.

Once again, error code 0x8002006e is:

kDRBurnMediaWriteFailureErr = 0x8002006E

defined as:

kDRBurnMediaWriteFailureErr

The burn failed because of a medium write error.

Available in OS X v10.5 and later.

Declared in

DRCoreErrors.h
.

Ditto!!! Also a photographer with the same problem. Beyond frustrating doesn't begin to cover it. Have just thrown away 5 DVD+Rs in a row. Spend tons of time searching on line for an answer to this problem...time, BTW, that I do not have. Getting ready to switch my 7 year old laptop that is soon headed for the scrap yard, but can still burn a DVD+R, for goodness sake!

Sitting here with my arms folded (in my subconsciousness, that is) waiting for Apple to, as you said, "fix this problem yesterday!"

Apple just do not care about its customers. They don't give a ****. We will continue to buy their hardware because Windows machines are not an option. But, soon as something better comes I will leave this rotten Apple forever and I will never turn back (and I am with Apple from 1990, but I am disgusted how pricey they sell their products, like DVD burner that never burns anything on my shiny iMac 27'', but hey, icons are really cool, so eye candy).
