i just downloaded the new version of itunes and cannot access the itunes store. I have seen other comments that other users have posted and they have had the same issues. i am hoping that it will start working within the next few days as other users have said. if anyone knows of any other suggestions as to what can do to fix this please let me know. i have already tried the suggestions that this website has given me and nothing works. if someone can please tell me if this has happened to them and if their itunes store is now working!!?? and how long did it take to start working again????

the message that comes up:

*Itunes could not connect to the Itunes Store.*
Make sure your connection is active and try again.

Unfortunately I have experienced the same thing, what possessed me to upgrade when the older version worked just fine I will never know. Apple instructions are great if you can understand what they are talking about...is there an itunes for dummies out there??

Having said all that, I ended up restoring my system under accessories, trying to go back to before the upgrade, but don't think I went back far enough. Am not quite sure when I actually made the upgrade and I could only go back a few days. But what did happen was I no longer got the "unable to connect to the store" message, I am connecting, but I have no pictures. The top part of the screen is all blacked out as is any place there is supposed to be a picture.

I also cannot listen to anything, nothing happens if I click on a song. I haven't tried to buy anything, so not sure if that works or not.

Any ideas?

I was dismayed to see that the previous posts were from the first part of March and it is now April. I as a new upgrader still ended up with similar problems. Doesn't Apple fix any of this stuff in a timely manner? A month is plenty of time to find a patch to take care of this.

I recently purchased a new computer and i have downloaded and uninstalled itunes 4 times now and still cannot connect....I am connected to the internet and have no problems gaming, emailing, etc. This is very frustrating--I checked mt lan settings, disabled my windows firewall, ect and nothing works. Any help?

Are you running any of Symantec's (Norton) or McAfee's Internet security products or anything similar, or an antivirus/antispyware application? There have been reports that some such utilities treat an upgrade to iTunes as a new application and can block the application from connecting. So you have to go in and reset the utility to allow iTunes. The same thing can happen if you upgrade the security product (this has particularly been a problem with recent McAfee upgrades).

Check the settings for your utility and if necessary remove and re-enable the exception for iTunes (consult your utility's documentation for the appropriate procedure). You may also need to check the built-in Windows firewall as well.

Hope this helps.

After many tries i was ready to try to download the old version of itunes that was working, so i did it from:
http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=itunes
, but it did not open because it say that the library was created by a newer version, urrr!!! ... so i deleted the library and i though to get a new one from the resent old version downloaded, and that exactly what happed , but then i needed the old list of my podcasts so i uninstall the old version and install the new one and got the list on paper , after that, i uninstall and install again and perfect connection to the store but the library was clean , so i went to the Recycle bin and try to Restore the old library and it ask me if i wanted to replace this library with the new one so i did and now works like before all this nightmare. I really don't know what is the problem or the solution but it is working now, ...and it wasn't God, i am atheist! jaja good luck.

I had the same problem. After several hours of searching in the forums and trouble-shooting I ended up on Norton chat support. They suggested I uninstall and reinstall Norton 360, and even gave me a free upgrade from v1.0 to v2.0 Inbetween removal of the v1.0 and reinstallation, I tried iTunes and was able to connect to the store. After installing v2.0 I can still connect so I'm running again for awhile.... .until the next update. I'm now very afraid to let iTunes add any new software... and I can't tell the difference in the new version. Other people running Norton have had similar problems and Norton updates fixed it.

Cannot connect to the itunes store. Just downloaded the new version.
