Apr 16, 2008 4:10 PM in response to dorigenby dorigen,Also, forgot to mention, that I called Apple support. They didn't know much about the problem and weren't very helpful. They said they would help and exchange the machine if necessary and then recommended buying apple care for the new machine. What a joke. -
Apr 17, 2008 11:56 AM in response to atomic wedgieby Spikylee,1) It happened four times today, and it ****** me off. Strangely enough it hadn't occurred for a while, as in more than a week, so I guess today was a catch up day. In total it has happened so many times that I've lost the count.
2 & 3) Rebooting fixes it every time (which suxx!)
4) It happens with and without AC plugged in.
5) It seems to be a random feature
6 & 7) Matte screen, GeForce 8600M GT, 512MB VRAM
8) Ordered it on the 26th of February
Apple, there are already more than 10.000 views on this topic, a lot of people are having this problem, so please fix this! I'm didn't pay you guys more than €2500 and end up with a faulty laptop??
This issue is already bothering me for about 1.5 months and I haven't heard/seen an official statement about it since then.. bad bad bad Apple, you guys aren't supposed to be like this, stop messing around AND FIX IT!!!!!!! NOW!!! -
Apr 17, 2008 11:58 AM in response to atomic wedgieby ChrisBeach,Count me in too. Penryn 15", glossy screen. The problem is happening every few days and rectified with a brief sleep, or in more recent cases, a longer sleep. Disappointing I hope it's a firmware issue as it seems replacements are not the solution here (reading through previous comments) -
Apr 18, 2008 2:27 AM in response to atomic wedgieby ricisbest,Hi. I've got the same problem with my MacBook Pro.
Just thought I'd let you know: I called apple support and I got through to a product specialist. He told me that it was a known SOFTWARE issue, and they're working on a patch. He advised me not to return my computer as it would likely happen on the replacement too.
I emailed him with photos of the problem, that he said he will attach to the issue in their system.

Apr 18, 2008 2:33 AM in response to ricisbestby Paris Jake,I've had the issue about four times in the past nine days. Always when starting up, not waking from sleep. Plugged in or on battery, doesn't matter.
Just to reiterate advice posted above, hitting shift-ctrl-eject screen reset clears the stripes, so while hardly ideal to have to do it, it's a very fast solution.
I definitely want this fixed, but view it as a minor annoyance and am otherwise really loving my new MacBook Pro; everything else works perfectly (fingers crossed!).
Hope what the poster above reports is true; that it can be solved by a software patch. Get on it, Apple! -
Apr 18, 2008 7:41 AM in response to Paris Jakeby Spikylee,Ah! CrtlShifteject!! This works, I feel stupid for not knowing this shortcut, but this is an acceptable workaround for now, tnx Paris Jake! -
Apr 18, 2008 7:57 AM in response to Spikyleeby vallie,Is this a pure 15" led screen issue?
Or does it happen on 17" mbpro's too
And what aout the HD version of the 17" mbpro penryn?
ciao -
Apr 18, 2008 9:43 AM in response to Spikyleeby Paris Jake,Please don't thank me -- just repeating what some kind poster on a previous page suggested. The great thing is, it's a very fast workaround that doesn't require putting the laptop to sleep and reawakening, so I feel it reduces this phenomenon to a minor annoyance.
Still, a permanent fix would be nice.
best,
Jake -
Apr 18, 2008 11:05 AM in response to atomic wedgieby jasonechoi1972,I'm also having the same issue with my new MBP. I thought I was seeing things but when switched to white background, it was clearly visible. -
Apr 18, 2008 2:56 PM in response to atomic wedgieby head_honcho,I think the 10.5.3 update will address this issue. -
Apr 18, 2008 6:51 PM in response to head_honchoby nosidam,I guess those in ADC know whether or not it will...but can't say.
It's still weird for me because it only happened once on my original MBP and never on the replacement, no matter what I do to try and get it to kick in. -
Apr 19, 2008 3:36 AM in response to head_honchoby ChrisBeach,Out of curiosity, what's your basis for thinking that the 10.5.3 update will fix this issue? -
Apr 19, 2008 4:31 AM in response to nosidamby vallie,Hmmm
So i'd better send mine back and wair for 1 month before ordering a new one....
Hmm still troublesome... -
Apr 19, 2008 2:39 PM in response to fearofcornersby Matthew Hunter,I have also this problem, alternating light and darks bands. It was on the opening movie when it came out of the box and after loading my system. Applecare said they knew nothing about it and even expressed major dis, to the extent of saying they are a big company now and its not like the old days!, then said to erase and install. After one new ext500Gig to time machine to the bars popped up on the start-up. There were bars at random all week. I think it happens when it sleeps but a few time it just starts. It resolved after closing the screen and in one case only after a restart. I have no virtualization software or windows, in fact a pretty vanilla set up.
Since it happened on first power-up i think its an chip problem. It amazes me it got through the soak QT. I am going to run a hardware test and send it back. I have purchased about 17 macs over the years and never seen this particularly with the price. I noticed some other problems with unstable email, and non functioning keys especially delete in mail and a failure to connect to LAN or AP intranets, drop boxes etc. Hope this helps. -
Apr 19, 2008 5:58 PM in response to ChrisBeachby head_honcho,sorri to say, but it's just hopeful thinking... =(
