May 6, 2008 10:22 AM in response to Jesse Munozby gamlidek,I'm not saying anything at all, really... Just pointing to the latest 10.5.3 seed information and noting that I don't see anything pointing to LED backlighting issues. You are correct, we don't really know what the problem is. I don't want to speculate, but I do see a bunch of people saying Apple is aware of it and I think an Ars Technica article even mentions that Apple said they are looking into fixing it in 10.5.3 or something.. or maybe that was in a comment. Either way, I was just linking to the seed info and noting I didn't see anything about this. :-P
I am feeling longwinded today. :-P
cheers,

May 6, 2008 11:50 PM in response to atomic wedgieby sinbad21,You can add me to the list : I've had the issue a couple of times, every time after rebooting from Windows to Mac OS (it's perhaps a coincidence).
For those who have a yellow tint, did you try to calibrate your screen ? You can download a profile for the MBP here : http://www.focus-numerique.com/test-42/telecharger-un-profil-calibre-pour-son-ec ran-apple-31.html
This profile is really better than the default one ! -
May 7, 2008 5:37 AM in response to atomic wedgieby cwilkinson,I have this problem as well. I haven't phoned apple yet, because there appears to be no solution at this point. -
May 7, 2008 5:48 AM in response to brooklaby za zaza,Could you please provide us with further information regarding where did you purchase the 1st MBP that had the problem, where did you have it replaced and what is the make of the display of your new MBP (via System Prefs > Displays > Color > Profile). Probably the first digits of your SN would rather be helpful to some people here.
Really do you have a matte or a glossy display.
Mine is matte and the stripes appeared after I switched on the MBP for a first time (!!!!). The appeared after waking it up from its first sleep. :-(( -

May 7, 2008 7:37 AM in response to atomic wedgieby Mac Cardi, will this topic ever end?
sordomudo, when did you buy yours?
Anyway, the update rate is slowing down. May be it will be safe to send out the computer for repair within few weeks from today. -

May 7, 2008 10:38 AM in response to Mac Cardiby lps007,Is anyone else's problem with this getting worse? I went at least a month without seeing the stripes, then just a few days ago they reappeared. Now I've had the problem several times a day every day since, and even with restarting the thing, the problem reoccurs soon enough. The only thing I've done differently during this time is use the computer like a maniac because I'm studying for finals. Also, we have to use awful Exam Soft for exams, so I've had to boot into windows a couple of times a week too. And I loaded some motorola software on the windows side to use with my phone. Could any of these things affect the issue? Is it possible this is hardware related and the thing is going to eventually fail? I am so disappointed that Apple hasn't seemed able to address a known problem that is affecting so many users. -
May 7, 2008 10:41 AM in response to lps007by cwilkinson,The stripes are random for me, no better, no worse. -
May 7, 2008 10:41 AM in response to atomic wedgieby VSM,I'm on my third new MacBook Pro. The first one (purchased at MacMall) had a 'T' key that would drop 70-90% of the hits. An Atlanta Apple store genius replaced the machine after two days of ownership. Two days later I was back at the genius bar with the vertical stripes issue on the second new machine. A different genius replaced the machine again. I'm typing on the third MacBook Pro, which has also experienced vertical stripes, but only once. I am uninterested in trying to 'solve' a problem that I had to educate the genius about. Hopefully a solution will be offered. My machine is:
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro4,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.4 GHz

Total Number Of Cores: 2

Bus Speed: 800 MHz
Boot ROM Version: MBP41.00C1.B00
SMC Version: 1.27f1

May 7, 2008 10:46 AM in response to VSMby Okeetee,Hi all, first time poster here. I've been lurking the boards for quite some time now, but decided to chime in.
I recently bought a Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz (about three weeks ago) and started getting the vertical stripes a week later. Funny thing is, I would only get them at night while running on battery power. The command-shift-eject works for me to this point. It has happened around four to five times.
So here's another name to add to the ever-increasing list of Macbook Pro owners with vertical stripes syndrome. -
May 7, 2008 11:00 AM in response to VSMby VSM,...forgot to add that my machine(s) have all been matte displays and the vertical stripes issue only happens to me when waking from sleep on battery power (usually low). -
May 7, 2008 11:02 AM in response to VSMby za zaza,My SN is W8810*YJX as well!
I got it from NY. Do you think the SNumbers are related to the stripes?
Most important question: Do you know any people NOT having such issues with their brand new Penryn MBPros? -
May 7, 2008 1:17 PM in response to atomic wedgieby wcamp,Add another person with this problem. I bought a 15" MacBook Pro last night, shut down, and found the stripes this morning. In addition, I found the screen very hard on the eyes compared to any other display I've ever used, some combination of fuzziness in the fonts plus the backlight.
The store took it right back and I didn't replace it. -
May 7, 2008 1:42 PM in response to wcampby dchadsey@mac.com,I figured I'd throw in as well...I picked mine up the week the Penryns were launched and while I love the thing....I saw the vertical stripes after about an hour of use. I have the Macbook connected to an external LCD most of the time so I am running into this on a regular basis but I'll tell you something. Apple really needs to make an official statement on this. I bought Applecare but don't want to waste my time getting this unit replaced if the issue is software related.
Glad I have the 3 years in the event that its the screen. Either way I would love to know what is going on.
Peace
DC
