Jun 17, 2008 11:29 AM in response to atomic wedgieby banano_sf,me too...got my new MBP 15", this issue popped up within 4 days. Initially would go away with a screen close, but then persisted. Took it to the apple store (by then it had gone away), described the issue, and got a replacement MBP. about 3 months later, the issue has popped up again on my replacement, but this time its very infrequent. -
Jun 17, 2008 12:38 PM in response to longofestby sypashley,I had enough of it and e-mailed macrumors with the link to this discussion and why i think they should talk about it a couple of days ago, I'm glad they took it on board and hope for Apple to respond to the growing number of users who have had this issue!
Come on Apple this is has been around for a while now, we want answers! -
Jun 17, 2008 2:02 PM in response to banano_sfby veritel,I have been having the same thing happen to my 2.4G 15" - started around 3 months after purchase. It goes away with a restart. The only thing that I can add is that is seems to happen more with certain types of desktop pattern running - something with a more solid colour. Thanks for raising this guys. Lets hope we get some action on it. -
Jun 17, 2008 2:33 PM in response to veritelby Mankymanning,I have this problem too! I just got used to it frankly, it started soon after I bought the laptop about 4 months ago and I found closing the lid, going to sleep and waking the machine up again sometimes fixed it. The ctrl-shift-eject key combination will be a life-saver! -

So far, it only occured 3 times.

*Ctrl-Shift-Eject to "sleep" the display, then touching the trackpad to acticate the display.

Jun 18, 2008 8:08 AM in response to atomic wedgieby WNash,Add me to the list. I have noticed that with mine it usually happens when the OS boots on battery power. Can't replicate. I am going to the Apple store in the next couple hours to ask about this...We'll See!!!! -
Jun 18, 2008 4:28 PM in response to WNashby Arem1,Arrrgh! I just recently bought my long-awaited and saved for MacBook Pro, only to discover these ugly stripes that I sometimes can't get rid of, even following all the above advice.
I can't believe that Apple and its resellers are still selling these things hand over fist when they know there's a design fault.
But then, I and thousands of others would not be buying them if they fessed up to the problem. Nice ethics, Apple.
Guys at the Apple store just shrugged when I mentioned it. Hopeless. -
Jun 18, 2008 5:01 PM in response to atomic wedgieby WNash,Went to the Apple Store with a 12:30 appt and was there 15 min early. At 12:45 I was still 4th on the list. I told the hostess that I couldn't wait any longer and she asked if she could help. I told her about my problem and about this thread. She said that she knew of the problem and I needed to talk to a genius. I left. I guess that the only thing to do is wait? The lines have only happened twice in two months but most of the time I have it plugged in and almost never let it sleep. Overall this is the best notebook or desktop for that matter, that I have ever owned but then again I was an exclusive windows user until a year and a half ago. It could be worse. That's it for now. -
Jun 18, 2008 6:08 PM in response to atomic wedgieby Gustavo Pizano,GREAT!, I have just receive my new Penryn MBP, and I realize I get the strange vertical strips, right now im at a sumer camp and I cant go to an apple store until september.. what can I do ?.. some times I get the strips some times I dont... great I hate this.. new computer and with problems. -
Jun 18, 2008 8:09 PM in response to atomic wedgieby acarlos1000,I am having this same issue with my new MultiTouch MacBook Pro 15" 250GB, I got it in the beginning of March and already has a stuck blue pixel and this oddly vertical stripes. It's a shame that I've paid US$ 2700,00 for this computer and having so much trouble with the screen. What does Apple has to saying about that? -
Jun 18, 2008 10:07 PM in response to atomic wedgieby Mac OS X 11 Pussycat,I just encountered the same stripe problem for the first time in 3 months of mild brand-new MacPro use. What triggered it was accidentially unplugging the power unit (MagSafe Adapter). Resetting the display (Ctr-Option-Eject) fixed the problem, at least for now.
I have to say that neither Apple's hardware nor their software (OSX 10.5.3., iMovie) impress me any more - any reasonably configured PC will do the same job, most likely faster and more efficiently than even my 8-core/8GB RAM MacPro for less than half the price. I use both platforms daily and heavily for Scientific, Imaging and Office purposes, so I think I can be a pretty fair judge. No iTunes, though. I invested heavily into several Macs recently and am very disappointed by how unprofessional, buggy and inefficient OS X has become - Tiger was sooo much better, and iMovie 2004 as well. The bugs/inefficiencies are too many to describe in detail. What Apple needs to do is decide whether they want to stay in the computer business or not. The progressive deterioration of their products makes me guess they're on their self-chosen way out of this area and, opbviously, into toys (i.e. iPod, iPhone).
