Jul 3, 2008 2:05 AM in response to MitchFby Tay Dog,Hi All,
Just like to add another me too to the list. Bought my macbook pro about 2 weeks ago, and have experienced the Vertical Stripes only once so far.
Also, yesterday i experienced the blue tinge across the whole screen, that other users have been talking about. I wonder if they are related? -
Jul 3, 2008 6:21 AM in response to atomic wedgieby RichText,Please check out my blog post on this topic.
http://www.ricroberts.com/articles/2008/06/09/macbook-pro-strange-vertical-strip es
I've posted a photo of the problem, and I'll keep the post up to date with the progress of my apple support call (also see the comments). -
Jul 3, 2008 11:14 AM in response to atomic wedgieby Think Again,Exact same issue since day one. Top o the line decked out MBPro. I also conveniently got a keyboard that half the keys don't fully stick down on either. Nothing has fixed either issue. -
Jul 3, 2008 11:47 AM in response to atomic wedgieby ChrisBeach,So, after having the vertical stripes and having my screen replaced (twice, because the first replacement had a dead pixel), the vertical stripes are back.
I got them yesterday and now again today.
I've been without my laptop for two weeks, and now will potentially lose it again for more repair work. Considering how much value these devices lose over a year, and how difficult it's going to be to sell a faulty MBP, I'm really upset over this problem.
Recommending Apple products is now completely out of the question. Nice operating system, nice hardware design, great customer service in general, but the hardware QA is appalling. Faulty devices should not be replaced with faulty devices. I don't pay "pro" prices for problems like this.
Apple - how about a response on this issue, please? -
Jul 4, 2008 4:01 AM in response to atomic wedgieby RichText,The more people that blog about this issue, the more likely it is to get noticed. This article shows the power of blogging - Dell finally took notice:

Also, let's try to get this item to the digg front page:

Apple can't ignore this forever if we raise the profile enough. -
Jul 4, 2008 4:25 AM in response to RichTextby Mac Cardi,I received back my MBP, with a new screen.
I performed an "Erase and Install" new installation and upgraded from 10.5.2 to 10.5.4.
In the colour profile, after this clean installation, I find the 9c83 code, so this screen is by Samsung.
This 3rd screen is much better than the second one. It has only a slight bleeding in the bottom part, not very noticeable. I think the AUO had better, richer colours, but this new screen is not yellowish as the AUO. I tried to replicate the stripes with no success so far: with the second screen I got them after a couple of attempts. I am not saying that they have gone away: I am sure I will see them very soon.
Concerning the blogs: I agree with you. I posted some comments on many blogs, I will write my own one. The problem with this strategy is that there are a lot of mac zealots: they will outnumber the people trying to critique the mighty producer.

Jul 4, 2008 5:05 PM in response to atomic wedgieby Kit Greer, yup, another 'me too!' to the list..
bloody annoying since I forked out for a new MBP, was so excited to get it so I could finally get some good work done (photoshop and design stuff), to start seeing these lines.
Didn't know that closing the lid and opening it again fixed it, I just put up with it until I couldn't look at it anymore, then went away for an hour and came back. Also just read the control-shift-eject key combo. Not had chance to try that yet, but I saw what it did, and everyone else says it fixes it. Preferably, I'd like Apple to fix it for good!
IMO, the amount of dodgy screens I've seen from Apple is a bit disheartening. Not only with MBPs, but most of them. The hardware rocks, the OS rocks, the screens/monitors kinda let things down a bit. -

If the displays do not come under hardware, then what are they? Just guess if the hardware rocks, then so do the displays, no? -
Jul 4, 2008 6:06 PM in response to needsomeihelpby Kit Greer, sorry, kind of 'generalising' a bit there. I meant the computers themselves, aside from the monitor. I'm sure you know what I mean! -
Jul 4, 2008 9:56 PM in response to Kit Greerby Coccigirl,It had happen to me too
My MBP is 1 mount old and last week I did not use it for a week and when I opened it there were the vertical stripe.
It happened 2 more time in the same week. I called applecare for that also because I had 2 dead pixel and they send me to the store but after that they said there was not a big problem and I had to wait to see if it will become a bigger problem...
After that I had a black stripe in the top of my screen. I don't know what is that but I hope they will find the problem -
Jul 5, 2008 7:58 PM in response to Coccigirlby The Egyptian Magician,Not sure if it means anything but i have not had the vertical stripes nor the bluish tint display problem occur eversince i created a color profile in the system preferences. It's been 2 months and i still have my fingers crossed whenever i open the lid after putting my MBP to sleep.
Cheers,

Sep 11, 2008 5:51 AM in response to RichTextby za zaza,*How long* does it take the R&D monster to figure out what is faulty with their software/hardware?
Apple apparently *will never* provide us with a solution for this issue.
Fingers crossed that my post will not be deleted again.

Jul 7, 2008 1:33 AM in response to atomic wedgieby Mac Cardi,After exchanging two screens I have finally realized what the MBP wireless problems are.
I think the antenna is in the screen.
The AUO had a fantastic wireless sensitivity. This last Samsung one seems to catch the signals only when located within few meters from the access point.
Beware.

Jul 7, 2008 2:04 AM in response to Mac Cardiby MaxxD,I have heard that this is a result of not connecting the antenna cable when reassembling the MBP. There's a chance you just have a dangling antenna cable. -
Jul 7, 2008 12:11 PM in response to Mac Cardiby atomic wedgie,Could you please keep your posts in this thread on topic? If you have an issue that is not specifically about uneven LED backlighting, post it in the appropriate forum. While the lid may contain the wireless antenna (in the most recent MBP design, it is located in the hinge), this is not relevant to the problem described in this thread.
