Jul 22, 2008 2:55 AM in response to atomic wedgieby dinasaur2,I have a noticed over the last couple of months on my Macbook pro OS X 10.4.11 that when I have a black colour screen, the left hand side of the display reveals three points of light (light grey in tone) 2 1/2" between the three points, alternating light to dark. Although not they are not vertical stripes, I spoke to Applecare and we tried different ways to fix the problem and still the left hand side of my display when set as a black screen, still has the three points of light alternating to light to dark. I have to take it into Apple to get this seen to. Has anyone else had this problem? -
Jul 22, 2008 4:33 AM in response to Anton Tsyganovby nosidam,The "(early 2008)" is the nickname for the currently shipping models that were announced in March 2008. It has nothing to do with when they were purchased. -
Jul 23, 2008 2:23 AM in response to ddh60by Jotun0881,Hi everyone,
So I've been following this thread for a looong time now hoping that by the time I can no longer postpone my buying a new MBPro the problem would be fixed. Bummer.
And it seems something new is around the corner, perhaps one month or so, but I can't wait.
Now going back to the problem, my attention was drawn by this (^^) solution. Maybe the stripes show up only on solid color background. Huh..I doubt it, but umm...has anyone else tried switching to a picture bckgr with some luck ?
Thanks. -
Jul 23, 2008 6:10 AM in response to Jotun0881by MaxxD,Changing the background does not stop the problem. While a background that is very dark will hide the problem, the problem is with the backlighting. For example, it is very difficult to see the problem with the Apple aurora/space picture because the entire bottom of the picture is black anyway.
However, you can still see that the backlights are alternating on and off if you have the dock showing. it just isn't quite as obvious. Some background pictures show the problem better than others. It's as simple as that. -
Jul 23, 2008 6:13 AM in response to atomic wedgieby MaxxD,I just noticed this thread went from 50,000+ views to 1,900 views. -
Jul 23, 2008 6:41 AM in response to atomic wedgieby za zaza,Does this thread have only 1,916 views?
Did anyone reset the view count?
Didn't it have 50,000 views? -
Jul 23, 2008 10:26 AM in response to za zazaby gamlidek,To answer your questions:
* Yes, it magically has about 2000 views now.
* Yes, seems like it.
* Yes, it did, once.
Sad day for me. -
Jul 23, 2008 11:17 AM in response to za zazaby nosidam,Anyone know of any posts out there that has more than 50,000 views? Does the forum have a limit of 50,000 views and the count gets reset when it goes 50,000 + 1? Does anyone on here actually believe that moderators would keep the thread open but reduce the views on it, rather than just make the thread disappear like Hoffa? -

Jul 23, 2008 1:52 PM in response to atomic wedgieby norf13,3 of my posts regarding the view count have already been refused! -

If the view count was really above 60,000, then my best guess would be a 16-bit integer overflow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integer_overflow) that caused the views to wrap around to zero, as opposed to someone manually twiddling with the forum view count. (I mean, why bother?) -
Jul 23, 2008 2:54 PM in response to nosidamby Brett L,This thread is being locked, as it is becoming too long and some browsers are timing out before the thread loads. It is being continued in [Strange vertical stripes - Continued|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1627678].
Thank you,

Aug 15, 2008 9:56 PM in response to atomic wedgieby atomic wedgie,To date I have not received any explanation from Apple as to why this is happening, whether it is hardware or firmware related, or if this defect will be fixed. The response to my legitimate concerns has been totally insufficient.
