Drag>Copy

I’m embarrassed to even ask about this as it’s about such a basic process which I perform everyday in other programs, but here goes.
When I attempt to drag>copy, I can only do it say one time out of five. Not only do I do it on a regular basis elsewhere, but I have read and reread and re-reread the manual about a dozen times. Despite that I quite obviously missed something.
As it’s really frustrating me not to have such a simple tool at my fingertips I need to ask for some help in this...so HELP!

That is what I'm doing already and as I indicated it only performs correctly once in a great while. So I had hoped that I would learn about something that I'm NOT doing already, but thanks.

Just make sure you are pressing and holding down the option key FIRST, BEFORE you click on the region with the mouse.

I know you said you're doing this, but if you're used to working fast, that's a really easy thing to overlook. Even if you think you are doing it in that order, a split second difference can make or break the action from happening.

Try it slowly, several times in a row, and if it works each time, then you know you were probably just clicking that mouse button a hair to soon...

Hi Everybody,

a few months ago I asked the same question because I had (have!) the same problems. I'm a logic user since 1995 and I imagine its some kind of bug, since this problem could not be solved in all those years.
In my case its definitely not a user fault, I desperately tested EVERY combination possible ( press Alt key, wait a minute, then drag and drop with mouse and so on)
I've been trying that for about 13 years now and there's simply no solution, I think its simply luck when you finally achieve a copy in one out of ten.
So don't be embarrassed, here's a real logic veteran with the same problem, especially when it goes into the piano roll.
The "alt drop and drag" thang works a little bit better in the arranger window.
Despite this little aggrevating buggy behavior of the program I'm very happy with it.
best regards, Holger

Hi,

Fair play if you have been using Logic for that long, veteran indeed! I have to say mind that the alt drag does not cause a problem for me. I am using a different mouse mind as I find the mighty mouse I had very unpredictable for this kind of operation, particularly right click! There is of course also the option of cmd 'R' to add to the list. Cheers.

guys, you are definitely doing something wrong. the wrong mouse maybe. I've been using this drag –> drop or drag –> copy thing for so many years now. it actually does not matter when you press the option key, as long as it's down before you let go of the mouse key (if you want to copy).

this is actually a feature I love in logic - you can start dragging and WHILE you're holding the region/note/whatever, you can decide or re-decide to drag OR copy.

please try it with a different mouse and very slowly, making sure the option key is pressed when you let go of the mouse button... I promise you it works!

Did you ever resolve your issue? I'm having the same problem. I'm using a Wacom tablet and thought it might be related to that. But I've plugged in a regular mouse and have the same issue. It's odd. It never happens in Live or Reason or anytime before Logic Studio. Just curious if you've gotten any useful info. I know how to perform the function and it's really getting maddening that it's working intermittently. Let me know if you've had any luck. I have other friends who haven't experienced this so I'm searching for sanity. Thanks.
