time capsule software

Seeing as time capsule is just a hard drive with an axbs in it has anyone tried using the software that comes with time capsule with the axbs to see if the software will fix the axbs not seeing a usb drive attached to the axbs for time machine? Just a thought.

Yes someone has done that and commented on it here - only to report that nothing has changed.

This is not surprising, since the software supplied with the Time Capsule is only used to configure the Time Capsule. There is no new software provided that "fixes" the Airport Extreme N Base Station. Also, Time Capsule is not "...just a hard drive with an axbs in it". It is a product of a completely new design.

Henry, If you look at the pictures on flickr of the one a guy took apart all it is is a hard drive an airport card and a power supply. What is so new with any of this other than they are all in one package? No reason in the world apple should not get the axbs to work with time machine other than money. Are you sure apple is not owned by EXXON?

Sure - but that is all you would expect to find inside. What you don't know from that picture is how extensively the logic board was redesigned for this product.

I too would like to hope Apple can fix the problems with the Airport Extreme N Base Station by simply rewriting its firmware, but whether this is feasible or not is a question I don't have the answer to.
