Call waiting won't turn on!

When i got my phone the call waiting worked just fine. At some point, and I don't know when, the call waiting option in settings was turned off and now the device will not allow it to be turned back on. Unit says "could not save call waiting setting" with a Dismiss button. Has anyone had this problem?

I had the same problem and after a 3 hour conference call involving myself, Apple and AT&T the problem was finally resolved. Turns out it was something wrong with a couple of settings at AT&T so you might want to contact your carrier and have them check your settings. I will say that the people from both Apple and AT&T were very patient, very thorough and diligent in the efforts to correct my problem. Good Luck!

Were you in a different location? Some people have had trouble turning call waiting and forwarding on/off if they are off-network.

The iPhone plan does not come with what's called "off-network alpha tag," so there is no way to tell if you are on an AT&T partner network (yes, this happens in various parts of the US) unless you call CS and ask that it be activated (free). Without the tag your phone always dispays "AT&T" for network. With it you will see "Off-Network" when you are off.

Sometimes even with the tag I find it hard to tell exactly when I'm on/off if I am between two towers, one AT&T and the other a partner. So if you are on a "border" between networks, try moving to known AT&T ground and try again. One kludgy way to tell without the tag is to call 611. If you are off-net you will get a recording telling you to dial the 800 number instead.
