NEW Sony HDR-SR10E HD

I've just ordered this morning the Sony HDR-SR10E HD.
Unfortunatley when I've arrived home today I have message on my answer machine from Sony explaining that It WONT be compaitable with my Macbook Pro running Leopard.

Has anyone else heard similar?
Also is there a way I can use it with my mac - I'm really stuffed.

Thanks

I think It may be the latter.
Sounded like he was reading from a script on the answer machine message.
Although I did make it exceptionally clear on the form I submitted to them that I knew the bundled software would not work as it would be PC only - I specifically asked them about iMove, or simply transferring the files and being able to interpret them with a mac running Leopard.

I explained to them that at present I have the Sony VX2000 and use it connected via Firewire effortlessly.

He said that I needed to buy a Sony with Firewire (or as he called it iLink) USB simply wont work..

I was suspicious and thought rather than talking to a Monkey I'd ask here instead.

How'd u find ur Sony? Sound good but a bit more than I wanted to spend and i think I can cope without the larger HD.

Thanks!

OK. My problem is with the SR7 which at the moment is a hunk of junk paperweight for all the trouble it's caused. It was a prize so there's no taking it back. I run Leopard, have iMovie 08, Mpeg-2 Playback Component ($40 for Australians!), Streamlink and I have followed every bit of advice in these sagely columns. Thank you.
However, nothing seems to work. The Mac doesn't even notice that a camera is hooked up - the camera appears as a new mounted white progam thing -not as a camera. It calls itself Handycam but that's it. iPhoto on the other hand, sees it and downloads still pix from it. I've told Mac not to open iPhoto when I connect a camera but that doesn't help. I've followed the plug in order, removed all the jpg files from the camera, have NO SD files and zero.Zip. Nada. Niente.NanimoNAI!!!
What can I do? It doesn't require firewire -that's for non HDD cameras and I don't understand when I've been to all the Mac support pages any other way out. Sony BTW know absolutely zero and couldn't care less!
Any more ideas? I'm interested to hear from people who have made it work!

I wonder if its seeing the memory stick only?
Try it without the stick out.

Can't really say- mine works really easy in ANY order - if its mounting the HD on the desktop then it should see it - obviously ur selecting USB connection on the cam and then choosing (or trying to) the cam as input on the drop down menu on the import?

I haven't got mine in front of me but I'll take another look tonight to see what ur missing - U don't need any drivers as such just basic stuff

Thank you so much. I have tried it many times and gave up on my MacBook and have a brand new MacBook Pro with the latest versions of everything - just delivered last week. Still, nothing. iMovie does not see the camera -it says to connect a camera (and the **** piece of junk is connected) I have followed three different versions of the how to connect mambo and none of them work. The only thing in the drop down menu of iMovie is the built in iSight.... I have been to every support page -all the Mac ones, the forums and even non Mac (as I have Virtual Box and evenare installed Windoze to beat this sucka!) However, although i can use the crappy software from Sony to view and play the clips, none of the Windoze media programs can decode the .m2ts files so I can't edit or anything. If I copy the files from the Handycam to my Mac desktop, they are there but nothing will open them. What I dont' Is it an is how other people's HDR-SR7s get connecting - are you all in the USA?I called Mac and Sony and all of them say: it works. Hmmmm...one thing I haven't mentioned is that when I put the camera on and push the Computer icon, it only ever says "Connecting: Do not remove USB, do not turn off power" but it never goes to a second screen. Is it supposed to?

I spose I should just sell the piece of junk on eBay..... (the camera, NOT my Mac!)
