Q: 3 partitions...

How do I choose which partition starts my PowerBook Duo 2300c?

I have 3 of them, and one with the OS 9 wont boot up the computer - the other 2 partitions works nice but how do I tell the computer to start from them instead of OS9 which doesn´t work at all...

PowerBook Duo 2300c, Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier

Apple Menu > Control Panels > Startup Disk control panel

If one of your Volumes \[partitions] does not show the characteristic icon of a System Folder \[with Mac SE on Folder or Interlocking Faces on folder] that System Folder may not be "Blessed".

1\[Start up your Mac from another source of software]
    2 Open the System Folder.
    3 Double-click the System suitcase.
4 After the System suitcase opens, close the suitcase and System Folder windows.

If this doesn’t work, then try the following:
1 Drag the System suitcase and Finder out of the System Folder.
    2 Close the System Folder.
3 Put the System suitcase and Finder back into the \[closed] System Folder.

Boot from a System CD or diskette with Disk Tools or Network Access Diskette. Then try the "Blessing" procedures above. Then try to use Startup Disk to set Volume \[partition] to start from.

The Duo 2300c is a laptop without CD drive... or floppy disk. And I don´t have the docking station either. I was hoping I can power up the computer, press some key combination and then choosing the partition I like to start with, but it seems it doesn´t work this way...

    art,

You might try resetting the PRAM:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=2238

The startup disk selection is stored in PRAM; with a reset, the default setting may be one of the other OSes...might be worth a try.

At which point in the boot up does it freeze? Does it present a flashing question mark or does it go further? If it is getting part way into the boot try starting with the shift key held down to bypass any extensions that may be presenting problems. If that works you'll need to experiment to discover which extension or control panel is having issues.

Depress/hold CommandOption+ShiftDelete at startup and it will boot from a partition other than the one selected in the Startup Disc Control Panel.

The flashing ? means it can't see a valid OS from which to boot, I guess after passing up your OS9.

I have 3 of them, and one with the OS 9 wont boot up the computer - the other 2 partitions works nice but how do I tell the computer to start from them instead of OS9 which doesn´t work at all...

Uh, I suppose there actually is an OS on one of these other partitions? Have you booted from any of them recently?

Yes, there is an OS 8 on both partitions (worked well before I used OS 9) and there is OS 9 on the 3rd partition - the PowerBook intend to start with this particular one...

Since you can't boot from external media it is hard to analyze what is happening. Right now it sounds like it isn't booting from any partition, correct?

Right now just OS 9 boots, but it stops right after the welcome screen shows up...

Try booting with shift held down. This bypasses most extensions, but if the system get up, you can move files around, bless a system, or use Startup Disk Control Panel.

I wasn't sure if he tried this since I suggested it a few days ago.
