Mail will change the "Sent" mailbox to "Sending..." and will show a spinning wheel next to the "Sending..." Mailbox list while it is sending. If you do not see the blue mailbox column on the left of Mail, go to View -> Show Mailboxes...
If you want to see all progress as it happens in Mail, go to Window -> Activity Viewer.
Sending a 1MB test mail, the only change I can see in the main window is the Drafts number clears when the message starts sending - no change in Sent/Sending, no spinning wheel anywhere?
The Activity Viewer seems to be the answer to my question, but why add another window for sending status, I wonder?
I understand the mail sending progress bar. My problem is that it does not work in one of my mailboxes. Works fine in the others. i can't find any preferences difference. In the one that doesn't work (my main onw, of course) the "sending" bar just doesn't appear. It still sends the mail. I can use Activity viewer.
I have my email account set up on my laptop, PowerMac and iMac so that i can read my mail either at home/work or on trips away.
All 3 computers are running OS 10.4 and using the same version of mail (with the same settings).
The only problem is that on my iMac i don't get the spinning wheel or the "sending..." message - although it will display the message as being sent in the Activity Viewer???
Any ideas? as small as this problem is, its so annoying!
I agree. The progress bar is very handy. If I'm sending an email with a large attachment, I have no means of knowing whether it's sending or not. I don't see any reason I should have to open another window to find out. In my case the sent folder does not change to sending, nor is there a spinning ball. I'm using Mail 2.0.3.
You do have the "swoosh sound" that tells you that the message has been sent.
There is a Pref you can check - in Mail.
- "Play sounds for other mail action" -
It's under General.
That lets you know when you get mail and when you send mail.
I did have trouble with it when I upgraded to Tiger.
As small as this problem is, it's TOTALLY annoying.
If I want to send comsecutive large attachments, I'd like to know the progress of each one so that I know how long I have to wait until I can send the next one.
That way I know whether to do something else for a while, or wait for just a short amount of time.
I'm surprised that the slick designers of Mac's applications missed this one when they upgraded.
Yes, I have the sounds, but just like Wade and guitar guy said, it's an annoyance when attachments or large mailings are involved. Plus the sounds don't reveal the progress of the task, only the completion.
It's a step-backwards in terms of how we are used to working with our Macs, knowing what we can do when based on knowing what other tasks are being performed.
It's as if CD players (and iPods) all of sudden stopped having time counters.
Here's my issue:
I watch my mail get sent via the "Activity Window." I also hear the sound that is associated with my mail being sent. But, as soon as the message is sent, it disappears from my Sent folder.
This is odd, because it has ALWAYS saved a copy in the Sent folder. I checked my preferences and such and nothing has changed.
Anyone else experiencing this problem?
It's frustrating b/c I can't see what I sent! Of course, my temporary work-around is to have it automatically 'cc or 'bcc me, but it shouldn't have to do that.
It seems to be a complete lapse in judgement. Losing the mail progress bar and having the activity viewer as a separate window is lazy, unhelpful product development.
It should simply be included in the main mail window - maybe as part of the toolbar that you can customize.
Something strange is going on here... I'm running the latest version of OSX (10.4.3) and Mail (2.0.5) on both my iBook and Emac. The progress bar shows up on the iBook but doesn't show on the Emac. All settings are the same, I've tried trashings the plist file, reinstalling, etc. but to no avail. What's going on with this progress bar???
The little progress widget and the changing of "Sent" to "Sending..." have ceased to appear/happen after inactivating some accounts in Mail.app. Email does still get sent, but there is no longer any visual cue of sending except in the Activity Viewer window (cmd-0). Where did the visual indicator go?
