iPod nano won't show up in iTunes, Finder, or Disk Utility,

Sorry, I can't offer any help. Just to say that my iPod is doing exactly the same thing. The computer just doesn't recognise that it's even plugged in except that it re-charges the i-Pod but iTunes doesn't know it's there. My daughter's iPod works OK on the same computer. I don't fancy restoring it thought cos that means that I won't be able to put the stuff from the library back on it. What do we do?

Hi Guys, absolutely the same thing. Have anyone tried ti connect the Ipod to other computer or using other cable? (I don't have aby access).

I am having the SAME problem...and I just got this Ipod today. It's showing a full charge but ITunes won't recognize the Ipod. I've tried the 5R's...

I am having the exact same problem. This Nano has worked flawlessly for the last year on this computer. It stopped recognizing it today. Is it possible that one of the recent Itunes updates has a bug in it?

I just tried my old shuffle and it still works. Any suggestions that would allow my daughter to get a fix for her nano?

My 1st generation ipod nano worked fine on my imac but it isn't recognized by itunes on my macbook pro. I'm running the latest version of itunes. The macbook is running OS X 10.5.3

I have experienced the same problem and solved it by resetting the iPod (switch lock on and then off, and then press menu and the center button simultaneously). My iPod Nano was connected to my iBook when I did this. I don't know whether resetting a disconnected iPod will work as well.

I have an actual 1st generation ipod and am having a similar problem. I had a windows based laptop, which my nano worked on. When I bought my iMac in December '07, I reformatted my ipod to use with my mac. After restoring my ipod, I added some songs and used it for a few days before I got a message telling me that I must restore my ipod. I don't know why the message appeared, but I connected my ipod and restored it again. After that, however, my Mac no longer recognized my ipod in Disk Utility, iTunes, or Finder. I've tried using other Macs, no luck, Windows computers (which actually recognize that something is connected, but it doesn't know what), but nothing seems to work. My ipod turns on fine, I can do everything except add/remove music. It will charge if I plug it in, the entire menu system works. I've done the all the tests in Diagnostic mode and everything seems to be fine, but it still doesn't work. >.<

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Oh, I've also tried putting it in disk mode, but that doesn't assist in it being recognized either.

Thanks so much! I didn't do the lock/unlock part, just holding down the menu and center at the same time while connected...Bingo....Itunes came on and I'm now synced.

I had the same problem and I solved it by making another account on my computer and using itunes in that account and it went right back to normal

great suggestion. had the same problem and RESETTING the ipod while it's STILL connected just fixed the issue completely.

Same issue here, but it worked when I've shutted the iPod down (pressing menue an center button at the same time). iTunes and my Mac is now able to recognize the iPod. Thanks for this suggestion.
