doesn't display video game properly? take it back?
I play a game called wurm online a lot. It's a game that is run in Java. When I start it up in my brand new 2.4 Ghz Macbook, It shows the ground and all other surfaces not facinging my point of view in the game as black. Also, when I play the game. I play it in a window rather than using full screen and i noticed the bottom couple of lines of pixels on my screen near the dock flicker white. I use to play this game on my old 1.66 Ghz mac mini and never had any of these problems before. Anyone haver any suggestions? Should I take the Macbook back and see what Apple says?
I can tell you that I've run into similar circumstances on a few old games. I believe that it's related to the drivers for the Intel GMA X3100 graphics chip. Exchanging the MacBook is very unlikely to solve this problem.
That stinks. I'm not familiar with graphics processors and all they're components, but is there a possibility of this being fixed anytime in the future? I just don't understand how it would work with the old ones, but not with the new 3100.
The reason it works with the old ones but not the new ones is because the drivers are different for the new video cards. It's an issue with the software that drives the Intel GMA X3100 graphics chip.
Unfortunately, Apple doesn't update the drivers for video cards very often. I would not hold your breath!
Anyone willing to try the game out and see if it does the same for them on a new 2.4 Macbook? It's free and would help me greatly. That way I won't have to travel an hour and a half to the nearest Apple store and see if it does the same on their computers. You can download at wurmonline.com
