itunes stutters, windows Vista 64Bit

I have a new PC, running Vista 64Bit, with dual core AMD 5200+ processor. High enough spec to play all new games fine, 2GB RAM, 512MB graphics card etc

However, itunes stutters a lot when playing back songs. I have latest version of itunes (using Apple software update), quicktime, drivers for my soundcard (don't believe this is a problem as games work fine). I have disabled windows sidebar itunes gadget. I have no other sound problems with any applications.

Any other suggestions appreciated as this is very annoying!

I had this exact same problem. There was a windows update available a few months ago that resolved the issue for me. I cannot remember the KB article that covered this but I suggest checking for updates.

On searching the internet, it seems this is a common problem and also effects other media player software. Most solutions involve checking drivers and windows updates etc. I have the latest drivers for my sound card (Creative Audigy Soundblaster) and the latest windows updates, but this doesn't seem to make a difference, so I am not sure if it is a windows problem or a soundcard problem.

I'll see if I can find the specific KB article I'm thinking of. My brother was having the same problem and I'm sure that between the two of us we'll be able to find the update we had to install. It wasn't listed with the rest of the windows updates.

I was having this problem as well with vista 64. Whenever I would click out of itunes, even just to the desktop, and click back to itunes the music would skip for a good ten seconds or so. Realized it happened anytime my DVD drive was being accessed, even when empty. Went into my device manager and deactivated my DVD drive and sure enough, no more skipping.

Granted this is only a temporary fix, but at least I know what was causing it now.

At last I have the solution. The problem is my wireless network adapter. I have emailed the customer support team for it and they tell me the problem is that there are no 64 bit drivers for it. So, even though it appeared to work fine in all other aspects, it was causing this stutter problem for itunes and windows media player etc.

So I have now purchased a new adapter and the problem is fixed!
