iPhone playing default ringtone at wrong times

I have about 8 ringtones on my iPhone. I have a default set for the majority of my contacts and then a few individual friends have their own. However, quite often the default ringtone plays instead of the alternately assigned tone. Does anyone else have this problem?

Does it happen at least 50% of the time? Because it's definitely noticeable

I have the same problem I've been trying to solve this problem and I got good results although it still happens but not all the time. First erase all the ring tones and make sure every contact has default then reload the ringtones and manually have those select few have the ringtones you want to hear when they call worked for me good luck!!!
