My desktop are flooded with temporary files i save. Before I was able to delete them. Now it says I don't have permission to do so. It asks for my password, i was able to put my password since I'm the only person uses this laptop. When I do put the password it gives me this error message "The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for some of the items. " It's weird because before I was able to delete files that are on my desktop, now I can't. But If there was a folder on the desktop and files in it, I can delete it but of course I cant delete that folder. And I cant rename them. Any suggestion on what to do or how to troubleshoot this?????
The first thing I would try is "Repair Permissions" using the "Disk Utility" program in the "Utilities" folder in the "Applications" folder.
If that doesn't work, find a file you \
can delete, then use "Get Info" to look at the "Ownership & Permissions" of the file. Now go to one of the files you can't delete and see if you can find the difference in permissions.
yup tried it again. went to documents and deleted a file and was able to do so. went back to desktop to delete a file, it kept asking me for my password which i was able to provide but then that error thing pops out and doesnt delete the file.. went to utility to repair permision thing, still wont do me good.
I figured it out!!!!!I went to my computer file then saw that the desktop was locked. i unlocked it and was able to delete files that r on my desktop that i didnt need.:-)
i am having the same issue.. that i dont have privlidges to empty my trash i dont see where you went in your computer to find out that something was locked....... i have a macbook
any thoughts on directing me, i have looked around .. but to no avavail, nothing seems locked
