Printing from Safari

I am having trouble printing some web pages on Safari. Some pages will print, others won't.
I tried saving pages as PDF file and then printing...also inconsistent results. Suggestions?

Hi Jack,

Do you mean that the print job doesn't go through, or that it doesn't print as it appears in Safari? If it's the latter, you have to expand the print dialog with the 'arrow' button to the right of the 'Printer' selection. Select 'Safari' in the field below where it says 'Orientation', and check the box which says 'Print backgrounds'.

Each web site can print differently. The HTML & CSS code can be programmed by the site's webmaster to specify exactly how a page looks when printed and it can be very different than it appears on the screen. The webmaster can even use the CSS to specify that certain parts, blocks, images, and elements of the page not print at all.

To make a fair assessment, I would suggest trying to print the same pages from FireFox or another browser just to verify the problem as being with Safari.

I like using a utility like SnapFish to create an exact PDF image of a page as it's displayed on screen which eliminates these site specific issues.

Also, make sure your printer driver is up to date. Which printer are you using?

Sometimes trashing the com.apple.print.PrintCenter.plist or com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs found in your User Account>Library>Preferences file can help. Before you do that, try the Print in another User Account to see it the same problem appears. If it does, the first suggestion won't help. In that case I suspect the Printer Driver may be the source.

Why go through creating new user accounts or deleting printer drivers when it's not yet known if the site's page can be printed properly from anywhere?

1. Print the page from another browser to determine if it's Safari only.
2. Print the page from Safari on another computer to determine if it's a problem on your system.

That should conclusively tell you if your problem is Safari, the web site itself, or something installed in your system.... all without guessing and without trashing/re-installing software.
