2GB RAM upgrade for iMac G4 1.25GHz

2GB RAM upgrade for iMac G4 1.25GHz

I'm upgrading a friend's iMac G4 1.25GHz from 512MB to 2GB RAM. I am comfortable with anti-static procedures, thermal paste, etc. so am not discouraged by the non-user serviceable DIMM socket.

Before I order from Crucial, I would be grateful if someone who has done this before could confirm these part numbers:

1GB, 184-pin DIMM, DDR PC2700 memory module

Hello and Welcome to Apple Discussions.

Looks fine to me. I certainly have that first part in my iMac G4.

Are you going to replace the PRAM battery and consider replacing the Superdrive too? I only ask as they are cheap components (£6 + £18) that are getting to an age where failure is likely.

Good idea to replace the SuperDrive. Another friend has a G4 iMac with a failed drive. Is there a make and model of drive that you would recommend?

I'd go for the Pioneer 115. It's the same family of drive and several people have confirmed success to me.

Thanks too for recommending Pioneer DVR-115. I have seen references to this model on several Mac sites.

Hard drive is fine... he obviously hasn't been using EyeTV!

I'll let you know how we get on.

I was in trouble the other night when the 160GB partition I have set up for EyeTV ran out in the middle of recording Waterloo Road for my wife (professional interest!). Luckily the release of BBC iPlayer for +iPod touch+ the next day saved me as she could watched it streamed to the +iPod touch+ and via the AV cable connected to the TV.

Phew.
