Time capsule as a media server

Not yet. My set-up is like this:

Time Capsule connected directly to modem
Net Gear connected to Time Capsule with different network name through ethernet
PS3 connects to NetGear
Macs connect to Time Capsule

PS3 says no UPnP available, but it does show a media server, but I cannot connect to it. I plan on playing around with it a little more when I have time.

It works Perfectly as a media server for my iTunes library.

Sometimes iTunes won't find the library just after TC starts up but you can either locate the library on TC yourself or restart iTunes.

Can you explain how you set this up please?
I have a Macbook AIR and Apple TV connected to the Airport Extreme. I have a USB 750GB HD connected to the Extreme. I currently have my music/vid files on the external HD. I would love to replace the Extreme (and the external HD) with a TC if the TC can also hold my iTunes files as a storage device.

Yes, I’m using my TC as a media sever, both audio and video, without any problem. At my home I have two laptops running Windows XP, one Scaleo media center running Windows MCE and a MacBookPro running Leapord. It was a hasle keeping media and docs upto date for all and backups as well. TC solved the problem. Sharing videos , docs and pictures was straight forward. For sharing audio on iTunes, I had to make more than one attempt. Now I have same iTunes libraries on three computers sharing mp3s from TC, I can even play same song on two computers at the same time. Only thing I did was unchecked ”Keep iTunes forlder organised” and ”Copy files to iTunes folder when adding to library” under the ”Advanced” tab of ”Preference”.

I use Time Capsule as my media server for music, movies, videos and photos, and it works flawlessly. I never have trouble finding the media library on iTunes,

How did you configure it/set it up? I want to buy a TC but everything I've read said i can't. Please highlight!

Here is the setup to use Time Capsule as a media server:

1. Copy your iTunes library to TC.
2. Open iTunes preferences > Advanced and select the Change button under iTunes music folder location.
3. Browse to the iTunes music folder on the TC.
4. Do the same on all your macs/pcs.
Done.

John – This looks like a very good tip, thanks. I’ll try it the next time I rip more of my DVDs. Heretofore, I have used the default iTunes folder on my MB Pro for my movies and placed alias files in the iTunes folder that point to the real files on the TC. This worked well but required an additional step, albeit the simple one of creating alias files in iTunes. Now, if your tip works for me, as I expect it will, I won’t have to mess with alias files anymore.

I had problem with the streaming of videos.
Both mac and pc.
Until I changed the channel settings of the wifi (mixed mode due to the g type pc wifi) to fixed instead of automatic.
Now it is perfect.
Sounds like the algorithm which is finding the optimal channel has some flaws in case when there is not a single other wlan in the area (my situation).

How is iPhoto configured with TC?
Is it the same process as iTunes: 1) copy iphoto library to TC 2) Point iPhoto to the library file on TC?
So I can then access a single iPhoto library across the network? (I would like to avoid the use of AppleTV)

I want to do the same with my Time Capsule but I've been unable to follow (understand) all the steps. If someone could walk me through this (I'm a little computer challenged) in the most simple way without abbreviations and computer speak, I'd appreciate it.

I've managed to figure out how to move my DVD collection into my Time Capsule. Thanks to those who emailed me and guided me through the process...
