Time Capsule slow file transfer

I am having experiencing extremely slow file transfers compared to my Airport Extreme. Renewing leases temporarily helps, but only temporarily. Slowness does not coincide with Time Machine activity. Mac Pro connected via gigabit ethernet, MacBook Pro and iMac 802.11m.

Mac Pro/MacBook Pro/iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.2)

If I try to unmount the TC drive, the TM back-up immidiately stops, so I don't understand how that can be a solution. If I restart TM from the menu, the drive reappears when the TM back-up restarts.

BTW, another pb with the slow back-up: I have to have the computer turned on all that time. I have it in my bedroom so the noise disturbes be during the night.

Also, there is not room for all of the content of my 1 TB HD on my 1 TB TC so I might want to change around what I back-up later. And those changes will take time.

I've been having the same problem with the following set up:

--------------------
Network: 1TB Time Capsule 11n Airport providing an 802.11g/n network

+Home iTunes hub/file-server:+ G4 Mac mini connected via ethernet cable to Time Capsule at 100Mbit/s

+Do it all computer:+ MacBook Pro 17" connected wirelessly at 130Mbit/s

All software up to date, both machines running OS X 10.5.2
--------------------

After trying some of the suggestions posted on this thread without success, I have now found a fix that has completely worked for me. It involves a one-line entry into the terminal and is provided and endorsed by people who seem to know what they're doing (Mac admins and the like). You can read all about it at the link below. Note that I am not someone who knows what they are doing (in terms of Mac sys admin, and in fact many fields) and so can't take any responsibility if this !@£$s up your machine. All I can say is it works brilliantly for me with no observable side-effects.

+[Apple support admin: please feel free to advise on this wide-spread issue at any point, and ideally let us know when an official fix can be expected]+

I found it at the following link, but I think it originated on MacFixit:

Good luck!

A quick read of the problems and discussions on the Time capsule forum gives three suggestions:

1) turn off your Virsu Checking software.

2) turn Off Spotlight Indexing of the Time Capsule.

3) do a Hardware Reset of the Time capsule. This seems to get it to go close to it anticipated speed.

For more info, read or post in the Time Capsule forum here:

I've been having issues with this as well. When I first got our TC, I really just set it up for TM and also moved some large, but relative infrequently used, files over to the general storage. The first backup went very well, and subsequent backups were so small that I didn't really notice. Just now, however, I noticed that it took over 5 minutes to backup a total of 10MB!

I am a sysadmin. I know for a fact that the ratio of data to storage capacity can affect data throughput. This is especially significant when dealing with media heavy applications, such as video editing over a SAN. Obviously, such a situation is far from the one dealt with in this thread, but it could be related. I'm at about 85% capacity on my 1TB TC right now. I'm going to move most of the data off onto my server storage and see if there are any improvements in transfer rates afterwards. I'd be interested in seeing if this works for anyone else.

The post about the 10.5.2 update could also be relevant. We'll see if 10.5.3 or subsequent updates resolve this issue.

Best luck with your tests.
